It was looking great until I saw the price for dogs - £4 per dog per night? Bloody hell.

Most sites seem to manage it OK without sounding like that.

French sites are the best - activity till late, with the weather to suit, and quiet till later in the morning Smile

well yes, i think most of the sites i go to seem to find it...the new forest ones all seem to have people awake but not making a racket...

me & Dh usually sit outside so as not to disturb the children, drinking and playing computer games. An, sadly, yes...thechildren do wake up early. and not quietly.

bit like most caravanning & camping club sites...they don't seem to attract super-rowdy groups, but don't feel the need to crack the whip either...

Is there not a middle way between groups of loud teens and people who need to be able to speak after 10.30pm?

Report
mnistooaddictive · 19/06/2011 19:54

They are on prime surfer location and in the summer suffer from groups of teens who want to party all night. My bro lives down the road so I know the area. Good for them, making it clear what type of clientele they want. Campsite owners around that area all have nightmare stories to tell of loosing masses of trade due to a couple of noisy groups.

No talking and no games.

I guess the sound of dice rattling while playing Ludo would ruin the peace.

Sounds like heaven. So many campsites are spoilt by others who think that it's an extension of being at their own homes and talking at the top of their voices until 3am, getting drunk.

Some of these sites are for famillies and they still carry on doing the above!
I want to go to that campsite now Smile

Yes, well, I've been camping a few times (July only mind!) and I'm sorry but I do think complete and utter silence after 10.30pm is utterly draconian. I have absolutely no interest in camping in huge places where there is a bar and evening entertainment, but what about having a convivial game of cards in your tent with your mates? I would be far more annoyed at being woken up at 6am by shrieking little children ...

Perhaps there should be family sites for those with older children only Grin.

Don't think DH and 9y DD would have coped there after last's nights camping trip! It was DD's school Dads and Daughters camp. There were 57 of them in total. DH called me at 10:30pm (ish) and the girls were still running wild playing whilst the dads were trying to dry off and get warm round a camp fire!

Maybe it's popular with OAP's or people who don't have / want children around?

Bibbity, bad/cold weather in this country and you might be glad to be tucked up in your sleeping bag at 10.30 Wink

They really do take the no excessive chattering rule seriously. Grin

I don't do big campsites, so I kind of agree with the quiet site idea, but if we ever stayed there, I'd be terrified that ds might wake up at night, requiring us to find new accommodation in the morning!

Still, whilst a bit rude way to state their rules, I guess it's hard to enforce quietness - at least here they're (very clearly!) open about it from the start.

Shock at the 10.30 noise curfew! Do adult people really go to bed at 10.30pm?

Report

wish I knew about this site earlier, would have recommended to it to the miserable sod in the tent behind us last week, he complained at 10.30 that he could hear our conversation!!!!!

The cattery WE use, don't know wtf happened to my typing there. Confused

Report
DontCallMeBaby · 19/06/2011 10:18

I know of a holiday establishment where the ducks, chickens, rabbit, chipmunks etc are definitely the on-site entertainment ... it's the cattery use use. :o Don't worry, the guests and the entertainment are kept carefully separated.

Having been perusing a lot of campsite websites lately, it seems it's hard to describe any rules or restrictions without sounding incredibly arsey. For instance, Henry's Campsite, which sounds very laid-back and hippy - "We love dogs, but we hate poo! We do not tolerate any on site, whether you pick it up or not." Erm - do you have to put your dog in a nappy? Or just have quick reactions and catch the poo?

I don't mind the noise curfew, one of my fave campsites has a similar rule and I have been know to ring the 'noise patrol' mobile to dob people in Wink.

I love these bits though -

'There is also the use of the receptionist' Grin

'There are a selections of different animal on the campsite to keep you entertained including our 23 tame ducks that live at the park, Numerous guineapigs which breed like rabbits and an aviary which has lot of birds to watch flying around.' GrinGrin

And they say they have no entertainment? Hell, there is nothing I like better than to watch guinea pigs shag and birds 'flying around'.

Agree they need a serious spell/punctuation/grammar check.

It would cost about £45 a night for us to stay there. That's £315 for their 'recommended' 7-night stay Shock.
We started camping because it was supposed to be the cheaper option!

Report
Lovecat · 18/06/2011 23:32

And it's £23.50 a night for a tent of any size at all, before you start adding on your children!Shock

Do they actually want anyone to stay there? I'd be terrified of snorting aloud at a funny bit in my book and be turfed out for not reading in the absolute silence required!

I agree, Noop, I'd be living in terror of DD not going down in their timeframe... not a relaxing holiday at all!

And yes, the 'your here to surf' sets my teeth on edge....

Report
Noop · 18/06/2011 22:58

I'd be worried in case I couldn't get my kids to go to bed, especially the first night when they are high as kites to be on holiday and camping! I've never had noise issues when camping, or caravanning.

Maybe not to teens, but their playground looks lovely so families with younger children.

reading all that gives the impression that they hate children
'As there is no entertainment provided we don?t appeal to teens, which is a start. '

I couldn't read past the "as long as your here to surf" sentence.

DontCallMeBaby · 18/06/2011 22:51

It's silly - I really want to camp on a quiet site, and noise really winds me up, but then I read those rules and think 'sounds a bit joyless' ... no pleasing me, apparently.

I would be concerned that after my wine and book (perfect way to spend an evening) my snoring would probably be heard outside the pitch boundaries.
