Creating a low cal biscuit or cake recipe

I’m trying to reduce my calorie intake a bit and also up my protein intake but I would still like a little something with my cup of tea in the evening.

I want to avoid buying protein powder bars etc so I would like to bake something that still tastes decent but it lower in calories than traditional bakes.

Im wondering about using whipped up egg whites, peanut flour rather than butter, yoghurt and apple sauce as examples of things that I could swop in but when I try and Google I just get weird fitness recipes that all have protein powder in them.

Anyone have any good recipes?

Slice Medjool dates in half, put peanut butter in the middle, roll in melted dark chocolate, freeze for 30 mins and then transfer to fridge. Eat when you fancy.

Just get fibre one bars or the Aldi/Lidl dupes. They're really good and about 80 calories you will struggle to make something as nice with as few calories.

I've made these and they are gorgeous, but not low calorie.

I make protein chocolate balls for us.

Whizz up 1 cup of oats in a blender for 30 secs
Add 1 tsp cinnamon, 1 tsp vanilla, 1 tbsp flax seed, 1 tbsp organic protein powder, 1 tbsp coco powder and blend for around 10 secs.

Add 15 medjool dates (with stone removed) and 1 tbsp almond butter. Blend until mixed and add a little water until it all comes together.

Roll into balls. My teens love them. Not sure about the calorie content but lots of fibre and good stuff.

I have a 156 calorie chocolate cake which feels very satisfying.

melt 30g butter/spread
mash 300g (without peel) banana
add 1 med egg and whisk in
mix in the butter
add splash of milk
add 125 self raising flour
1/2 teaspoon bicarb
50g cocoa powder
25g of dark chocolate broken into bits -add half to the cake batter and mix.

pour into a square cake tin lined with baking paper, sprinkle remaining chocolate on top. Fan oven 160 degree for 20 mins.
Lift out with the baking paper and cool on rack. Once cool put in fridge to set chocolate. I get 9 squares. I freeze in portions but if not freezing then I keep some in the fridge because one hot summer it went mouldy in 3 days out on the work top in a tin.

I do also eat dates with almond butter on and a sprinkling of sea salt which is delicious, I don’t put chocolate on because they are fairly calorific, even though healthy. 145 calories for 32g of dates (5 small ones) and 8g almond butter!

Just have a gullon sugar free biscuit, a fiber one square or a lotus biscuit. Perhaps a party ring.
As a long term calorie counter and optimistic baker of low calorie products I find that nothing I bake at home hits the spot and always tastes weird.
But if you want to try something, try these. https://bromabakery.com/37-calorie-brownies-and-no-im-not/

I make some oat thingies.

Mash a banana, add porridge oats and some frozen berries, mix together, shape like biscuits on greaseproof paper and put on the oven for a bit until cooked.

Dates are very high sugar! I make mochi which you could fill with peanut butter (I put nutella in, not very low calories! )

If I just want something sweet I have a couple of Peters Yard crackers with some chocolate spread from Sweet Freedom. It’s much lower calorie than Nutella and less processed sugars. If you actually want to make something properly look at Pinch of Nom recipes - they have several sweet recipes including mini coffee and pecan cakes for 50 calories.

I've made the Pinch of Nom brownies and banana loaf. Both fine, not amazing but I have made both more than once!

Yes but they're low GI so there's sugar and there's sugar

I was planning on making some muffins later, found some recipes on ambitious kitchen Fb page. They sound pretty healthy and the apple one is only about 150 cal but I realised I'll probably eat four in one sitting 😂

I make protein chocolate biscuits which Nutracheck says are less than 100 cals each, and they give a good chocolate hit which is what I need.
Beat margarine to soften it and then mix in other ingredients. Might need a tiny splash of milk to bring it together. Roll into 16 balls then press down with a fork to flatten. Bake at 160 degrees for about 20 mins.

I've also made them without cocoa and used vanilla protein powder instead for a non chocolate one.

If you're not set on baking yourself, the skinny bakery has some nice cakes. You have to buy quite a few for free shipping though so be sure you can resist!- they do freeze!
I like a good old fashioned rice crispy cake too if you can be bothered!
