Hi, just found out I'm pg again, I'm still bf my 7mo DD and want to know if I am ok to continue and whether I should expect any challenges/problems with it.

I want to keep bf if at all possible but like to know in advance if there are common/predictable problems because I think I will cope better then.

If it makes a difference DD is 7mo,a good size (over the 50th centile), on 3 milk feeds a day now with 3 'solid' meals a day, on a routine, sleeping through from 8am-8pm.

Any advice?

I fed my baby (16mo)through very horrid morning sickness until I was about 18 weeks pregnant. Just felt the right time to stop, fed other children for a year and 18months, so no definite pattern for me. Sensitive nipples came and went . Ironically even though I was being so sick I still enjoyed feeding the baby...

I know exactly what you mean - think you need to make a decision so you can stop gradually if that's the case. I have had to change DS's routine because I'm feeding DD and feeling guilty about that, I think he would feel pushed out if I stopped entirely 'because' of her iyswim?

I was feeding my 6mo when I fell pregnant again and I had to stop as my boobs were so painful. Luckily she has always been an eating machine so didn't cause any problems and I actually found it quite a relief in the end as I could concentrate on the pregnancy more rather than stressing about milk supply.

Thanks guys, thats so funny about that other thread - I'll post on there to say hi I think!

I guess we'll just see how it goes then. I have been SO hungry lately, now I realise I've been feeding 3 people!

Not sure if I'm up for tandem feeding or not, I'll have to have a think but equally I wouldn't want DD in 9 months time to think I stopped feeding her because I love new baby more IYSWIM?

Congratulations. My dd was a similar age to yours when I found out I was pregnant.

Feeding was slightly painful and my supply dropped significantly from about 8 weeks, but we carried on going, and I tandem fed until dd was over 2.

I think experiences vary, and there are quite a few ladies on mn who've nursed through pregnancy/tandem fed.

No advice but dd1stopped feeding when I became pg with dd2 she justvweaned herself off. There are lots of people on here that tandem feed though so it obviously doesnt always happen.

I'm not a lot of help really am I!

lots of tandem feeders on here - have a look at this thread.

Perhaps you could form a support group

As others have said, milk supply can diminish when you're pregnant so keep an eye out for that. Some women don't find it does though.

And I will repeat my recommendation for Adventures in Tandem Nursing which is a great book and really good on all the pros and cons.

Congratulations!

I think major sensitive nipples is the worst of it, they came and went for me but were worst in the second half. Some people find their milk dries up, but I didn't. Also finding tandem feeding a challenge at the moment from a practical pov while feeding DS to sleep as DD needs feeding constantly in the evening, but that will get better.
