Infant feeding

10 week old really fidgety when feeding!

So last week my LO was feeding the best he ever had. Finishing bottles in 15 minutes, hardly any dribbling, absolutely perfect but the last couple of days it's like he's forgot how to feed properly! He's okay for the first 5 minutes, then starts to get really fidgety, but still latched onto the bottle so he's dribbling a lot more because he just won't stop moving! Once he starts wriggling, I stop to wind him but he's like it for the rest of the feed at this point.

He's been checked for a tongue tie but apparently doesn't have one. He does click and dribble quite a bit sometimes.

He's very rarely sick or spits up so I don't think he has reflux.

We changed the teat size about 4 weeks ago as he kept falling asleep during feeds and I feel he's still getting used to this one so I don't think we can move up another.

He's still finishing his bottles but sometimes it's just a battle to get them in him.

Literally nothing has changed, it's like someone flicked a switch.

Any suggestions? I was thinking could he be teething because he's blowing a lot of spit bubbles, is very slobbery and sucking on his hands straight after his bottle!

Just wondering who checked him? MWs, HVs and Drs can notoriously miss often quite obvious TTs. Does he sound like this at all?

I asked the GP to check at his 6 week appointment but it didn't seem like a thorough check. He seems to have good movement with his tongue and every now and again will have a bottle with no clicking or dribbling and is perfect.

There are some similarities in the link you shared. I can't quite get him to lift his tongue enough for me to look, not that I know what to look for!

If he has symptoms on the link I'd either talk to Milk Matters, who wrote the article in the link, or find a Tongue Tie Practitioner close to you Wink
