How long do nuts stay in breastmilk for?

If I am breastfeeding and choosing to avoid nuts, does it mean that I can't eat them at all or will they disappear from my breastmilk after a few hours?

There are definitely two theories about avoiding foods during pregnancy and bf. I recently saw my ds's consultant (allergy specialist) and he thinks that the increase in food allergies esp to peanuts is possibly due to the increasing number of women who are avoiding them in pregnancy.

Sorry I'm waffling but he said not to avoid anything during PG or BF (despite ds and dh having allergies) and to have a normal diet. I definitely think everything in moderation is ok. I ate a few nuts during PG and BF (dh is allergic) and although ds hasn't had any yet, he's tested v low for nuts on an allergy test.

In answer to your actual question , if you've decided not to eat nuts then I suggest you completely avoid them - I don't think there's any particular amount of time after which the BM is 'nut-free'.

Sorry feel like I've talked at you rather than answering your question! Hopefully someone else will give you the specifics.
