Infant feeding

How long does your 3 month old breastfeed for?

My 3 1/2 month old literally downs milk but only for a couple of minutes then after that he refuses any more. This is every feed and he can go a few hours between feeds but surely he's not getting enough? He's a big boy and no problem with weight, it just doesn't seem enough!!

Would be interested to hear what others do!

Thanks!

I am so jealous! Dd fed for hour upon hour still at this age. Don't worry and enjoy it!

Mine did too - I do have fast let-down, so I figured she just got enough in that time. Now, at a year, she goes on forever, though...

Yup my 3 month old feeds one side for 5 mins every 3 hours and is 91st percentile. I don't get it either!!! But she must guzzle it down.

Thanks. He definitely seems fine and efficient feeding would make sense! Thanks!

My dd is nearly 11 weeks and sounds similar, she only ever feeds on one side per feed for 5 minutes max, every 2-3 hours with a couple of bigger gaps in the night. In the early days the midwives said she's just a really efficient feeder so if like you say your little boy is gaining weight, plenty wet nappies etc then he is probably just a good feeder too. It does make things easier for getting out and about, last time round I was pretty much sofa bound for the first few months as dd1 took so long to feed that each feed drifted into the next and was never really finished!
