Leaking at night!

Hi everyone,

I've been ebf for 2.5 months and my ds is sleeping reasonably well for a 2 month old. Only problem is at night I leak a lot of milk and I end up waking up anyway because I'm soaked! Any suggestions?

I had this problem when DD was tiny- she started sleeping 8-10hour stretches at 8 weeks or so, and I woke up sore and soaked regularly!

I got a bravado soft nursing bra for nights, it had an insert for a soft pad- I added a lansinoh breastpad there, and wore a usual one. I slept on a towel also. I had to change pj top most nights still but it saved my sheets! I leaked a lot in the day also and found Lansinoh pads were the only ones that worked. Spent an absolute fortune on them.

Puppy pads/huggies bed pads if it's that severe. Lansinoh booby pads were the only ones I didn't leak through at night. I wore a sports bra or crop bra to bed. I could get away with Tesco pads in the day though.

8months in and I'm still getting this! Lansinoh breast pads are the only ones that vaguely work and I have to have a muslin under me and another near by to wipe myself down periodically.

Yeh I'd highly recommend the bigger lansinoh (or tommee tippee) pads at night.

The smaller supermarket own I tend to leak through too.

Try the lansinoh pads - they are completely different to the regular mothercare type...

I was just using supermarket own brands pads, but then I got reuseable ones which are fine during the day but I'm leaking right through them at night. I'm going to have a look at the breast shields, can't believe I didn't know about them!

Rather than a muslin or a towel I sleep on a folded up cot sheet. It feels like the sheet underneath and is less likely to wrinkle, so disturbs my sleep less. It is also quicker to change when DC vomits on it or the nappy leaks.

I also hold a muslin against one boob whilst feeding with the other.

The Medela breast cups were an absolute life saver for me. I leaked a lot - I slept on towels! And if I fed, I swear the same amount of milk came out of the boob not being used! I never needed to express because I had plenty saved from the let down. The shells - best advice ever.

Which pads are you using?

I soak through some but not others (lansinoh and tomee tipee for example). Baby feeds a lot through night anyway.

I have had this exact problem and my solution is so simple I'm gutted I didn't think of it with DC1!

I wear a soft, night feeding bra and I cut a thick sanitary pad (like the ones they give you on maternity ward) in half, and put half in each bra cup. They are so absorbant you never leak and they are soft and flexible enough that they don't bother you.

I really hope this helps you as I was getting so worn out changing the sheets so often!

I put a towel under the sheets because I'm the same. Baby is 11 weeks and the amount of leaking has definitely decreased but I regularly have to change nightie/turn the duvet upside down to avoid the erm.. wet patch for want of another word. This is my second baby so i know it'll pass. But in the mean time it's a pain in the neck.

A mattress protector and muslins underneath you? It should settle down soon as your supply adjusts to match the demand.

Also, would breast shells be too uncomfy to wear in bed?
