Infant feeding

Help, I am in agony

intergalacticwalrus · 19/09/2006 08:59

DS2 is 13 days old. My boobs are aching like buggery, and everytime he feeds, I cry with pain. I fed DS1 for 15 months, and I didn;t have a single problem with pain etc after the first week of bfing, and that was only when he first latched on. The pain goes all the way through the feed this time. It's getting to the point where I weep everytime he cries for a feed, and I am seriously considering giving up, because I can't take much more than this (I know it's only ben 13 days, but it has got progressively worse since he was born.) Please tell me that it's one of those age related things and it will get better!

I am pretty sure I have him in the right position, so what else can I be doing wrong?

Help me and my poor aching norks, please!

Poor you - been there and echo others in saying it sounds like thrush. I had fluconazole prescribed for mine (ductal thrush) but it took until the 3rd doctor at my local practice before anyone would listen. Good Luck and

I phoned LLL woman, and she was brill. She thinks I have thrush, and told me to get to the docs pronto.

In the meantime, I shall just dose myself up on paracetamol, and get a stick to bite everytime he feeds.

Sympathy - i've been there. I promise it will get better soon. Good idea to get possibility of Thrush checked out. The pain you describes sounds like it could be.

igw, a few weeks ago, I was you! bfeeding, crying with pain, and feeling so upset because I was bfeeding for the second time and thought I'd got it taped......

Anyway, by 3 weeks it all came together and dd2 is now a strapping 100% bf 3-monther and that all seems like the dim and distant past.

It will come right, but sounds as if you need some expert advice.

In the meantime, have you tried lots of different positions - rugby hold, sitting up, you lying down etc - to vary the wear and tear a bit? That really helped me.

Oh dear

I don't know what the answer is either but you must get some help. Phone LLL they are fabulously helpful, knowledgeable and sympathetic. Sorry not to be more help.

I would still try and see a bf counsellor if possible.

You can call the NCT or LLL and speak to one on the phone, or they might have someone near you who can actually see you feeding.

Also, you don't have thrush do you?
