Just found out my 5 day old has lost 12% birth weight. Heading into hospital to be checked over. Really scared and no idea what to expect

Same here, LO was at 10% weight loss by day 3. Back to birth weight by day 10!

In fact, I think the midwife weighed him at the wrong time. It was the longest possible times since he'd had a feed, and he'd just done a big poo. By the time we got to see the pead at the hospital that evening, he'd had two more feeds, and weighed a lot more.

Mine had lost 11% of his birthweight by the same age. We stuffed him like the Christmas turkey on breastmilk only and he was back to birthweight within 10 days. No reason particularly for it, except perhaps for a touch of jaundice - just one of those things and he was absolutely fine, both during and after.

Doodle, sorry to hear this.

12 per cent is not panic stations. You need to feed a lot with tons of skin to skin, and checking whether your baby is actively transferring milk. They will prob check her blood sugars, jaundice and general well-being and it is highly unlikely there is anything actually wrong that won't be put right by fixing the breastfeeding so it works better and more often :)

Hi. My DD is 3 weeks old now and doing really well. When she was born age lost 10.7% of her weight and I had to stay in overnight with her and feed her every three hours. She soon put on enough to leave the following evening. She's now passed her original birth weight and put on 5oz in 5 days the greedy pockle
Weight loss is really common and they will just want to check there is nothing wrong with her. Don't be scared. I was though and couldn't stop blubbing so I know how u feel. Good luck x
