Worried about my son

My son is almost six. He has always been high needs but things are getting worse and We're struggling. He is completely fearless and will run off. Anything can set him off into a mood. He is always jumping over furniture in the house. We can't get him to sleep. It takes hours most nights. He doesn't listen.

I had an appointment with the optician the other day for me and him and he refused to have his eyes tested. Fair enough I wasn't go to force him and just tried to carry on with my appointment. He kept on going over by the chemicals and wouldn't leave even when asked time again by me and the optician. They had to lock the door of the shop to stop him running out and he kept turning the light on stoping my examination. He then decided at the end he did want them tested and then refused to leave and I had to carry him out.

He is my gorgeous boy and I love him to bits. I am worried and scared though and I don't know what to do with him. My husband feels the same. If we try and go anywhere my youngest boy is easy but my eldest is such hard work.

I have emailed the school and will book an appointment with the gp. Is there anything else I can do please??

If the second section fits him, perhaps you could print out the webpage and take it with you when you go and see your GP? It's an NHS page, so pretty reliable as a source.

Thank you. The first section no as be will sit happily drawing, reading or playing games or puzzles. The second section matches him well. It's just got worse the last few months and I have now also returned to work causing him massive disruption.

I'm so worried about him

Following on from what thedevilinside has said, have a look at the link below and see if any of it fits with your ds.

He sounds exactly the same as my DS, now 8. He has been diagnosed with ASD and ADHD, and fits the profile for PDA. It's exhausting. My son trashes everything at appointments, had a melt down at the optician's and wouldn't participate in his recent ADHD assessment. Fortunately, he was diagnosed with ASD before he became too demand avoidant, there is no way he would comply with the ADOS test now. I would push for an urgent referral.

Is his behaviour the same at school? Have they mentioned any concerns?

It was more extreme than normal but i also knew it wouldn't be easy. My three year old would have sat there better. He just seems so stressed and anxious and I can't seem to help him.

I think that going to see your GP and the school SENCO isa great place to start.

Have the school mentioned any concerns?

I have to say that his behaviour sounds quite extreme. Was his behaviour at the opticians normal for him, or unusal?
