Cranky, moody, clingy 14 month old. I'm clueless

I'm at the end with my nerves.. My 14 month old is moody and cranky lately I have no clue what is wrong with him. He was such a happy boy. But since he turned one it is horrible..

I have tried going out with him, inviting family that have kids he can play with, changed his diet, more and less naps during the day. Earlier bed time. (Currently he goes to bed at 8 pm).
Tried playing with him, getting him involved with housework (holding broom, cleaning out the dishwasher etc.)
He can crawl, he learned last week to walk on his own..

Seriously everything I have tried nothing works.
Oh and I should mention that 4 weeks ago I gave birth to a beautiful girl. And he loves her. He just wants to cuddle her and wants to play with her. He even gets mad at us for telling him to be careful and that she is to little to play right now..

I'm ready thinking of taking him to our GP for a blood test to see if maybe he is missing any vitamins..

I started giving him omega which was recommended to me from a pharmacist.

I'm at the end. Any suggestion what else I can try that he will be calmer?

Having only read this post almost a month after it being written I hope things have improved! I feel compelled to respond to this anyway!

I have an almost 14 month old DS who is exactly what you describe above but having read 'The Wonder Weeks' I'm happy I know what's going on and it's all perfectly normal.

Google and have a read if you're not familiar and indeed if you're still even having problems. The developmental stage they are going through can last many weeks.

Glad its not just my nearly 15 month old who is driving me INSANE. So clingy, cross, whiney, never used to be, what the hell happened? Constant wailing and tears as I won't let him empty washing machine/dishwasher, play in the cleaning cupboard, eat tissues, empty all my cupboards, empty a packet of Cheerios on the floor, whack the TV with the remote, throw keys at the patio doors, to add insult to injury I also brush his teeth, dress him, wash his face, insist on changing his nappy, put shoes and coats on him AND put him to bed IN HIS COT, ALONE after a lovely dinner, bath, ITNG on daddy's knee under a blankie. Its obviously bloody AWFUL living here. I don't know where it all went wrong, hopefully its another phase.

My 13mo is just the same. His world is full of things that frustrate and thwart him - I won't let him switch the oven on and off alm day long, I will try to dress him or out his shoes on etc etc. He was such a sunny baby, but he's staring to get cross and exercise his own wishes. We have lots more tears now, but they're clearly frustration based. He's learning really quickly and there's a lot going on, so I think it's not entirely surprising. My DS is happiest when he can potter about outside - in the park where he can do as he pleases. Could you bundle up the little one during a nap and take him out for a bit? I really sympathise, it's tough - and must be much more tough with a new baby too (congratulations!)

Having a new baby can do that. However it's also a natural developmental stage if you read child rearing books. He's realising he's separate to you and its scarey. Run with it and let him cling, make him feel very secure.

I'm sorry I don't have any advice other than to say my 14 month DD is permanently like that and has been since birth! Possibly teething and possible jealousy are my suggestions!
