2yo DD not interested in 'educational' type toys, normal?

Things like building blocks, wooden jigsaws with her favourite characters on, and books. Just point blank not interested in them.

She is mainly interested in role play toys. Her dolls/teddies, play kitchen and shop, wendy house etc. She'll make a brilliant mum one day Grin she is carrying her doll around in it's car seat and feeding/burping it as I type!

Just a bit worried that she has very little tolerance for anything else. Especially the books - I have tried everything I can think of to make her interested in them, but she just isn't.

Is it normal? I suspect it probably is, I know I'd much rather play with a toy kitchen than a jigsaw, but it seems that every other toddler her age can build blocks taller than they stand, are pro's at jigsaw and even read their parents a bedtime story Grin

When you're 2, pretty much everything is educational! It's not so much 'learning through play' as just playing full time and learning as you go. Which is right and proper! Your DD sounds fine.

Nursery is very free play now. They will probably encourage her :)

Thanks for the replies :) she's fantastic in every other way so I shouldn't be worrying. I think I am worrying because I have just put her name down to start nursery next year and I am wondering what will happen when the teacher dares pull out a book or tries to do some sort of 'organized' activity that doesn't involve her being force fed plastic chicken and eggs Grin

Don't worry! My niece was bought all manner of toys for her recent birthday (3) but at her party the 'winner' was the dead bee she found on the lawn...Smile

i think they are all different, she might get into those things at some point or she might not but i wouldn't worry too much for now

Completely, utterly, healthily and thankfully normal!

DS was the opposite, if that helps. He wouldn't do pretend play at all and much seemed to prefer games which had a specific goal and end point. He's starting to pretend play now but he's 2.10.

Everything is educational at this age. Pretend play means she's developing empathy skills and her imagination. And I expect the other things - the co-ordination required to build a tower, etc, will also come out in her play. I don't think DS could have managed to strap a doll into a car seat for example.
