They're all good, strong names!

Augusta - cool, but ugly diminutives ('Gussie')

Thomasina - sounds a bit like a cat. Will inevitably be Tom or Tommy - not necessarily a bad thing, but 'Thomasina' will so be the 'Sunday' name no-one ever uses (I know a couple of Teddies nee Theodora...)

Enid - nope, this one's ugly. Edith now...

Rosamund(e) - gorgeous, 'rose of the world'
Cecilia - nice but quite popular

Agatha - takes no prisoners! . Severe but potentially very cool
Beatrix - unobjectionable
Arabel - it does sound like you've missed the end off Arabella. Arbella?
Margot - no, too 70s. Its time has not yet come.

I'd go for Rosamund or Agatha.

I like everything except Enid, which lacks any grace or elegance or attractiveness, imo.

Augusta I really like, Cecilia I quite like. Not keen on the others TBH.

Like Thomasina a lot, also like Agatha, but prefer Agnes, Rosamund is lovely

Just seen this and wonder if you remember and have enjoyed 'Arabel's Raven' as much as I did! Hence your choice? I love this name for that reason as much as any other.

Anyone remember the Bernard Cribbens (?) serialisation on Jackanory???

I know a Margaux rather than Margot (after the wine apparently but v cool family and girl).

I love Agatha like all your choices bar Thomasina and Augusta. Love Annabella and Arabella on the Arabel theme.

They're very hard names (with a bit of an author theme, am I correct? Enid Blyton, Rosamund Pilcher, Cecilia Ahern, Agatha Chrisie, Beatrix Potter...?)

I prefer Rosa to Rosamund, Arabella to Arabel, and Erin to Enid. If I had to choose it'd be Beatrix or maybe Cecilia. Thomasina is awful though!

Augusta - too old lady

Thomasina - horrible. Sounds ridiculous as a female version of Thomas. And what would the nn be? Tom?

Enid - I love this name. It's very special and pretty. Nothing wrong with Enid Blyton, either.

Rosamund(e) - not so keen. Rose or Rosa are nice.

Cecilia - I think this is a beautiful and elegant name. And timeless, too.

Agatha - hmmm, again a bit too old lady.

Beatrix - I prefer Beatrice.

Arabel - no. should be Arabella but it sounds too much like a Disney princess name.

Margot - this is quite cool but I'd prefer Marguerite.

Have you got a bit of a writers' theme going on here I wonder?

Thomasina> sounds pretty

I don't like boys names made into girls names myself (along with boys names that are also girls' names), so that's Augusta and Thomasina.

I really like Agatha, lovely old-fashioned English name you can spell and say. Ditto Ceclia (also Cecily). Hah! That's a female Cecil isn't it! hoist by me own petard there!

Arabel and Margot - a bit exotic for me. Beatrix I like and Rosamund - I wanted Rosa after Rosa Luxembourg but DH vetoed (can't remember why).

Enid mnakes me think of the MN-er - is that good or bad

Augusta - hefty great tall elderly lady with shelf-like bosom
Thomasina - Cat in Disney film
Enid - Welsh primary school teacher
Rosamund - Sounds mannish
Cecilia - Jill's Pony book series
Agatha - Trunchbull
Beatrix - Quite nice but prefer Beatrice
Arabel - Farming
Margot - Looks like maggot.

Just my immediate thoughts, which seem to hinge largely upon children's books for some reason. Favourites are Cecilia and Beatrix.

Why so many old lady name threads at the moment?

Agatha - sorry!

Augusta best followed by Cecilia, then gatha. Enid verging on ok, will probably be in another 10 years' time.

TotalChaos · 31/08/2009 13:29

I like Rosamund and quite like Cecilia. Not keen at all on Arabel, too similar to arable farming!
