I am currently 29 weeks pg with our second child and we are expecting a boy . Of which are very few and far between in both our families so we are absolutley over the moon.

Our daughter is Georgia-Mae and will be 5 in 3 weeks time, indeed she is incredibly excited.

When pg with Georgie we really struggled with names for boys. Dp really liked Gabriel - i was not keen at all. I absolutley adore Harry - but he will not tolerate the name (family mambers with said name)

As soon as i fell pg this time around we both said we still liked an unusual name that we liked when pg last time around

Rossi

and bump to be will be Rossi James (James as a middle name)

We've had very mixed reactions - i can personally imagine a 3 year old, 10 year old, 30 year old, 50 year old and so on with this name.

Just thought i'd put it out for a test run here.

Its lovely and god on you for thinking outside the box.
I think it is a name that can grow with the lad.

In all honesty i think we are just going to go for it.

I have decided that we are just about tearing our hair out with every other suggeston as he likes none that i give him and he has struck Gabriel off of his list now and refuses to use it - if it wasn't good enough for me 5 years ago why is it now is his opinion!

I've tested it in several other places and do have mixed reviews. A number of people have said they love it many have loathed it equally.

If our son hates it he can always revert to Ross or use his middle name etc.

At the end of the day most people are not ecstatic what their parents named them and most people have a nn.

I truely believe there are some absolutley horrible 'names' that people are called or are planning to call their child that i could not envisage myself -so we will just go with our feelings.

Many of our family members and colleagues like it and have told us just to go for it.

Many thanks for your opinions
x

Sounds like a girl's name. Don't do it!

I know a woman called Rossi!!! Not sure if it is a nn or not but it suits her, cant say i can see it suiting a man of her age though!

Rossi is awful - sorry, really naff.
Gabriel, however, is a great name

NOT SURE ABOUT ROSSI, WHAT ABOUT JUST ROSS??

Don't like it, sorry. I would call him Ross and use Rossi in the family if you want to. I also think QueenFee's list of 'soundalikes' is really helpful - what do you think of those?

Never heard it before but I like it

It fails my 'surname used as first name' test. And it does sound like a nickname for Ross.

Sorry not to be more positive but if you really like it, then go for it.

PSi like it as a nn btw. NOTHING to stop you nicknaming a Ross 'rossi' but I think people would eye-roll less if the name seemed to 'evolve organically' even though you had engineered the nn from the start! nothing wrong with that.

I really like Ross and I like Roscoe too.

Why not just name him Ross and call him Rossi. or Rossy. Rossi on the birth cert is like put timmywiggle instead of timothy on birth cert.

I have the feeling he wouldn't thank you for it.

Similar sounding names:

Reece, Reese, Rhys, Ross, Royce, Race, Rayce, Russ, Reis, Rece, Rees, Reza, Razi, Reiss, Raza, Reace, Riaz, Rhyse, Reise, Reice

Personally I quite like it though

It's not a real name though granted it is a nick name.

Nbg · 27/12/2008 18:19

I should have added though - if you both love it, just go for it.
No one will ever have the same opinion when it comes to names and if you pick something you like not love, you'll regret it.

Rossi isn't a revolting name by any means!

"suck" or "stuck"?

That's right i did ask....

As i really wanted opinions! I ahve always been of the idea if you love it then stuff what anyone else thinks.

I never thought of it to be babyish if i'm honest - we both fell in love with it years ago and it has suck ever since!

I really am not keen on James as a first name either.

I still do really like Rossi, however it's brilliant to get honest opinions from others...

VERY common Italian surname. Babyish! He'll end up pretending he's called Ross.

Report
Nbg · 27/12/2008 16:41

Sounds very Italian and if someone said to me Oh and so and so has called their ds Rossi, I would assume you were Italian or your dh/dp was italian.

muggglewump · 27/12/2008 16:35

As in Valentino Rossi?
Cool guy but no, don't do it, it's a silly name.
If you must then go for Ross and call him Rossi at home.

Tortington · 27/12/2008 16:30

it sounds like a horrible americanism - y'know when they do the mothers maiden name as the first name - unless it had this sentimentl attachement - which i am guessing it doesn't i don't think its sensible - i think its silly

Reminds me of Francis Rossi, rocking all over the world!
