How long until you had a name?

Daughter is 2 weeks old 2moro and still doesn't have a name (I'm dad). We had some names on a shortlist before the birth, but none feel quite right . Not quite sure when a decision will be made.

I know we have 6 weeks by law, but I figured you were supposed to have a name even if it took a while to register.

Any one else taken a while to choose a name?

So, the names under consideration are Violet, Harriet, Charlotte, Rose, and Emily, with Suzanne as a definite middle name. Is that right?

How many syllables in the surname? Could you tell me the first letter?

Seriously Ninja. That isn't long. But in some ways I think it would be better, it would make people just make a decision. I think that sometimes if you leave it, it becomes harder to choose. DN didn't have a name for about a week, and I think DB and DSIL found it harder to choose as time went on

I know at least two people on here whose kids were nearly named 'boy'
Our kids got named way before they were born, as dh and I spent months bickering and discounting a variety of ideas.

Enjoyed reading your thread in Scotland you only have 3 weeks to register and I know so many people who had to extend the time period!! Hope you find a name that suits her soon. For what it's worth, my Great Grandmother was Violet and I'd completely forgotten about it, worth considering I am pg with a baby girl (I have a DS, Xavier) I'd like to name her Rosemary as her middle name both for my Grandmother Rosemary and in memory of the baby girl I lost, Ava. First name is still a stumbling block though, the only name both DH and I like is Aaliyah.

I would have thought Suzie would have been her kind of name but she wants it as middle name.

I think there was added 'pressure' as it would be nice to have a name by Christmas, but in the bigger scheme of things I suppose it's better that we take our time and get it right - either that or I'll drug the wife and sneak up to the registry office.

The farmer down the lane says he named his daughter on the way to the registry office and his wife didn't know what the name was until he got back (from an agreed shortlist tho)!

DS1 was named eleven years before he was born! Just a few weeks after we started going out together, d (future) h and I talked about names we liked and discovered we both liked the same name for a boy. Decided there and then that if we ever had a son, that would be his name. We married five years later and DS1 put in an appearance about six years after that!
DS2 was named before he was born, but only a few weeks. We had a choice opf two and final decision was based on whether DS1 could say the name or not! Both boys really suit their names, even though they were chosen ahead of time.

DD2 was about 5 weeks, we just couldn't find a name we both liked that suited her. She was Louise in hospital as a newborn, Twinkle for a month, then we decided on a real name

DS was Boy for 6 weeks, and we eventually used the name we had considered but not been sure about for the previous 8 years.
His middle name was decided in the registrars office

That flows really well. Suzy would still be a huge nod to her mother but has a totally different feel to Suzanne. It's very pretty which is her taste I think?

I didn't chose a name until ds was about 4 weeks old. I had a list but none of them seemed right and I bizarrely hated the thought of restricting him to one name for the rest of his life.
One day though, I looked at him and the name just came to me.
