My MIL is called Ellen Rose, but don't worry, she is lovely

It really wouldnt worry about the H dropping thing, it doesnt sound like that as there seems to be more emphasis on the El sound.

I like it, we have a welsh version of Ellen spelled with only one L ... just thought I'd share that!

DD is called Eleanor Rose and she prefers the full version rather than Ellie, although we did use this as a baby.

She has also had no problems with spelling it.

We do sometimes use the nickname Els Bels but she doesn't seem to mind.

Well my parents neighbours daughter called her dd that a few years ago. I REALLY like the names but I'm not keen on 'gimmick' iyswim. on the other hand if there's no link with leeds I would like it better - illogical I know!

Nobody says that Anna is Hannah wrong. I prefer Anna to Hannah, I prefer Ellen to Helen. Just my taste though of course.
