Hello,

I'm not pregnant, but we are TTC #3 soon so have started to compile name lists.

I've been through the top 2,000 names and have shortlisted these as my favourites.

Gilbert (Bertie)
Hubert (Hugh/Bertie)
Herbert (Herbie/Bertie)
Arlo
Ernest (Ernie)
Hector
Otto
Angus
Ivo
Barnaby
Milo
Raphael/Rafael (which spelling do you prefer?)

Surname is Scott.

I look forward to reading your responses.

Thanks!

I was the poster who liked the highest number of your names, and my children will almost certainly be going to state schools.

Does that prove anything interesting??!

Oh, I don't know - you might be surprised at the sort of people who use state schools these days............

I like many of them, but think he's going to need to go to private school. Milo and Hugh are on mine too.

Thank you Cecy but I think I'll make my own mind up about that.

Mabel is a cyclical/timeless classic and will never be truly "trendy"

Erm, if you say so.

I'm sure that's what people said about Ruby ten years ago.

None of them are my cup of tea, they all sound like a group from the old folks home.
I think he or she would be bullied at school with names like that.

Gilbert (Bertie) I like Gilbert but not Bertie. Bertie is trying too hard to be avante-garde. But it's just yucky.
Hubert (Hugh/Bertie) no but Hughie is nice.
Herbert (Herbie/Bertie) Herbie ok. Quite like that one. I think of the car and I like that. Bertie still bad.
Arlo - no. I love Arnaud though.
Ernest (Ernie) OK, but definitely put Ernest on the BC.
Hector - Love this one, also love Victor
Otto - Nice, I like it. Pallindrome. Are you Anna?!
Angus - like it. Like Fergus more.
Ivo - Like it. Like Ivor more.
Barnaby - Love it.
Milo - LIke it. Personally I'd go for miles iwth Milo as a nn though. Milo will date more. The O thing is nearly over darling.
Raphael/Rafael Love it. Raphael.

Cecy · 16/06/2008 22:56

Yes, it is old lady chic is that what you mean?
It is still only in the 460s in terms of stats popularity with only 59 registered in the whole of Eng and Wales last year. It will be popular again soon but I knew that when I picked it.

But mabel is already trendy.

Report
Cecy · 16/06/2008 22:40

Mabel is a cyclical/timeless classic and will never be truly "trendy" although of course is destined for top 100 and I don't know who the Fratellis are anyway lol - It's probably not one for you then.
Barnaby features quite frequently in the Times BAs.

Report
pointydog · 16/06/2008 22:24

none of them my cup of tea

Report
Brightfield · 16/06/2008 22:17

Yes I do really like these names, hence my post.

Barnaby is my firm favourite, Angus my partners.

I think Mabel may become trendy, especially since the new Fratellis song. Hopefully I'll have a boy!

Report
LuLuBai · 11/06/2008 21:30

Barnaby and Milo would be my runaway favourites.

Report
ShowOfHands · 11/06/2008 20:50

I love these names. Barnaby is on my list for a theoretical boy.

Another poster on here with a Mathilda. I'm changing dd's name, I really am. It's like the Emmas of the 80s.

Hector, Angus and Barnaby are my faves.

Milo is one of the Tweenies I think, so might not be best for a first name. Having said that my DS has it as a middle name, but I didn't know one of the Tweenies was called it too.

Apologies for spelling and puctuation!

Report

Gilbert (Bertie) NO!
Hubert (Hugh/Bertie) Like Hugh but not Hubert
Herbert (Herbie/Bertie) NO!
Arlo Really like this but not sure about it with SCott tbh.
Ernest (Ernie) NO!
Hector Lovely and sounds nice with your surname
Otto Fab name but doesn't go with Scott
Angus I like this but I think that it will sort of run in to your surname and sound like it's all one word because of the S ending and beginning
Ivo Ok
Barnaby Great name and goes wel with Scott
Milo Nice
Raphael/Rafael (which spelling do you prefer?) I think I prefer it with and "f".
