Alastair?

Hello, one of mine and DW's favourite boys names is Alexander, along with all of the nicknames. However, because of its huge popularity I am rather put off of it so when thinking of other names I came up with Alastair as it has a similar kind of feel and sound to it as Alexander, but is slightly more unusual. Do people like it? Thank you

One of England's greatest ever cricketers. Makes it a winner for me!

We have an Alistair and we never meet any others.
We went with this ^^ spelling, as it was the most popular according to ONS, so might get misspelt less often than some variants :)

Really like it but would spell it Alistair.
It might get misspelled a bit.

I love Alistair and we considered it, but had girls. I slightly prefer Alasdair though, just looks more handsome

I like Alastair - it's well known but not overused. A solid classic.

@plinkplinkfizzer and what’s wrong with it being a “Scottish Tory” name?

It's a fine name, but definitely a "t" south of the border

I love it But couldn't use it as my first cabbage patch kid was called Alistair Malcolm. And I still have him. Problem is that my best friend is actually called Malcolm, and. I find it difficult to take the name seriously!

I'm a fan. It was one of our faves but then we had a girl. I like classic names rather than faddish trendy types. I'm attracted to the Scottish classics like Alastair and Cameron. Timeless I think.

It's ok, don't love it, don't hate it. However, I really love Alexander so I would go with that.

It’s great. I like the Alastair spelling best.

I would say though that Alistair is the more common spelling. So you may have to spell out Alastair quite a lot.

It's a good Scottish name.

I actually really like the name Alexander. Alastair is cool too.
