Hi,

I'm due in a little boy in March. We already have an Isaac (if that helps)

After going through what seems like hundreds of names we have finally agreed on these two.

Rowan
Jude

I really like both, so having trouble making a desicion.

Which do you prefer and why?

Thank you mums x

I like Rowan.

Much prefer Rowan. Boy's name (Atkinson, Williams) but can be used for a girl (Pelling).
Jude can also be used for a girl, short for Judith. Short names get lengthened and it could be Judy or Judas.

Rowan

Rowan. Great strong boys name.

The feminine version is Rowena. I know a couple of Rowena's.

Jude
I work in a n environment where I see lots of kids and always struggle with Rowan as a boys name .
in this neck of the woods it's more a girls name ... pronounced Rowe- ann
when I have to say the male version of Roann o struggle

Rowan is nice, but to me it's a girls name.
All the Rowans I know are boys or men. Never heard a girl called Rowan. Rowena is traditionally the female version of Rowan..
OP both names are good names

Jude, as I think Rowan is going to get very popular.

These were my two choices. Went with Jude and could not be more happy with my choice! Get nothing but positive reactions.

Best wishes OP. Jude is a great choice and complements Isaac. Both classic names and easy to spell and pronounce.
You have the added bonus of having a special song to sing baby Jude to sleep with!

Congratulations! Jude goes brilliantly with Isaac

Yes Jude by a mile here too.
Congratulations on making a decision @Cuckoome - Jude and Isaac sound really lovely together. Now you can “relax” and enjoy pregnancy! (If that’s possible!) Good luck with the last two months 💐

I would think you were very religious if you had Issac and Jude.

I prefer Rowan

not jude. very negative associations of judas, and jude the obscure.

guess will have to be rowan. would not be my choice, but far better than jude.
the rowan tree is also known as the mountain ash, and flourishes in the north of England I believe, inc derbys. good luck.

15 girls were called Jude in the UK last year

I'm surprised at that!

Jude is a great strong name. I don’t really understand people talking about Judy/Judith seen as no one is even called that anymore (less than 10 babies a year or whatever). Jude has always been a boys name of Latin origin meaning “praised” apparently, like that. Only about 10 girls named Jude last year- there’s probably more girls called David or Stuart 🤣
Rowan on the other hand is a traditionally unisex name that I’m not surprised to hear is gaining in popularity for girls now. I’m not so keen on inevitable nickname Row or its similarity to so many other increasingly popular top 100 names like Roman. I have a popular 80s name that’s very similar to another popular 80s name (think Lauren and Laura or Gemma and Jenna- type similar) so I’m particularly sensitive to similar names as it drives me mad people always getting my name wrong.
