Opinions on the name Rafferty please?

Hey, I would be grateful for opinions on the name Rafferty for a boy, please. My husband and I are having a massive difference of opinion on this one - I think it's 'cool' but he thinks it's 'posh' and we cannot see where the other is coming from at all! Any thoughts on who is right?

Rafferty is used as a first name. Jude Law and Sadie Frost have a son called Rafferty, and I believe that Carter is used as a first name.
I'm not keen on either.
Carter could be replaced by Van Driver for a more modern take.

That's a sur name that lends itself very well to a translation. I like it more now I've seen it written down in its original Irish form.

Unless it is a family name like a grandmother's maiden surname or similar it sounds pretentious rather than posh.

hay im a rafferty of 16 years. during my time as a rafferty I've found my name unique but not so unique that I come off as a price. The nickname of Raff comes quite naturally with this name and I enjoy the shortened Raff nickname. Rafferty also when being yelled at a child who gets called Raff all the time makes me jump in fear (a move my mum uses quite often) hope your child enjoys the name if you end up deciding on it. 10/10 wicked name.

Raffertys a wicked name. ive been a rafferty for 16 years now and the nickname of Raff comes very naturally which is unique enough to the point where I'm the only person I now with the name but not unique enough where I come off as a douchebag. 10/10 wicked name I hope you chose it :)

Raffy as a nickname is much more common these days as increasing number of Rafferty Raphael Rafe Raffy Ralph names getting shortened to Raff or similar . Nice name xx

It's neither. It will be Raff and is downmarket.

The fact is that if some members of your friends/family don’t like it they will love your son and so they will learn to love the name attached to your son. Plus it’s your choice, you will say the name daily and you have to love it.

My instant impression of the name is posh, i personally like the sound but would definitely become ‘Raff’ which I don’t think sounds great

McGillicuddy, O’Looney or Hoare are much nicer if you want you to use an Irish family name as a given name.

Names for children with very soft spoken mums who wear long white lace dresses with flared sleeves, hair in bird nests of bleach blonde with a plait crown on top and when their kid throws sand in the air on top people's picnics she says "you mustn't do that poppet, it isn't very lovely of you is it."

That or the mum is working class aspiring to be middle class and thinks that's a good name to choose.

We call him Raffe or Rafferty...he loves his name! Everyone he meets compliments him. We regret nothing and he is a wonderful young man now with his own child💫💕 The name Rafferty could be any occupation all the way to President..his nick name Raffe allows for totally unique character...and that he is! Shlanche 🍻

Does sound a bit like a surname.
