Do you prefer it for a boy or girl? Also, general thoughts?

I have a Rowan, suits him very well. Nobody has ever mentioned Mr. Bean!

I really like it - I have some beautiful rowan trees in my garden! I would have thought it was a boy's name.

Love it for a boy but I do have a ds called it so am biased! He is an older teen. DS never really mentioned the Mr Bean association but funny enough ds did enjoy Mr Bean, but you used to hear the name used as a surname back then too on Heartbeat (Nick Rowan). Also similar was Ronan- Ronan Keating.
Not so keen on it as a girls name though, probably because of ds and I can hear dp in my head winding ds up by saying Rowanne Smile.

I loved Rowan for my DD but was vetoed by my Ex and my brother asked whether I meant like mr bean or the Archbishop of Canterbury :/ ...... turns out my DD had a male Rowan in her class at primary school so I was relieved I didn't use it in the end

Like it for both, one of the few genuinely unisex names as another PP said.

Rohan is a completely different name, you pronounce the h. Roan isn't a name. And it's always pronounced Roe-an, what the hell is Row-an and where do people come up with this stuff!??

It's nice enough (if a bit wet) when the row is pronounced as in row your boat. Awful when pronounced like row as in argument.

DS1 is Rowan, so I love it obviously.

"Rohan" is a waterproof jacket and "Roan" surely rhymes with moan/loan?

I like it a lot. It was on my boy's list.

I know a male Rowan but I think it's beautiful for a girl.

I picture an auburn haired, freckled little nature lover. Gorgeous.

I prefer if for a boy but it's also cute for a girl.

Really like Rowan, sounds very feminine to me Smile

One of my favourite names. Think it's one of the rare unisex names that works equally well for both, but personally I'd use it for a girl. Love the nature connection and the strong, non-frilly sound.

Love Rowan, it's great for both a boy or a girl

Love it, and totally would have used it, boy or girl, apart from the fact that I say it 'wowan' !

Nice for a girl, and pronounced 'Roe-an'.

Prefer it for a boy.

Like it for a girl, and pronounced 'row' (to rhyme with cow) not 'roe'.

Love it for a girl, not keen for a boy. And that's despite the only Rowan i know being male!

My youngest dc is called rowan most people ask if it's inspired by Lord of the rings especially when they hear his middle name but no one has mentioned Mr Bean.

My absolute favourite name, for boy or girl. Sadly vetoed by DH because it made him "think of mr bean" Hmm
