We are expecting a baby girl and really love the name Madison. Thoughts?

I don't like it. Sounds too american and tacky to my ears.

Interestingly, it never existed before the mermaid in Splash. Who was found wandering on madison avenue.

But the film was so popular it became a name in its own right.

It's quite common by me in a Jeremey Kyle kinda way (sorry!)

Seems a bit dated now. Love Maddie though.

Really don't like it (sorry). I really don't like Madeleine either though, fwiw.

Love it! DH exercised his veto so I wasn't allowed to name DD Madison (or Kennedy, that's my other dream name for girls)

I won't use the dreaded C word. But it is in the realms of Jayden, Kayden, Kai etc.

Not keen.

If you "really love" Madison, why bother asking what random strangers think? Confused

Madison, Jordon, Kenton, Jayden, all horrible chavvy names.

I really like Madison, so much better than Madeleine. It is very American sounding but I don't think that's a bad thing!

I quite like it, mostly because I love the film Splash.

I like it. I know a few, but they're all 20+ now.

I know two Maddisons, and one Madison. I prefer the Madison spelling, as I think that's how most would assume it's spelt. They do all get Maddie for short, but so do all of the Madeleines I know.

Yep, I'm in the minority, but I think it's a lovely name. I don't much care for the negative "sounds American" thing. It does sound quite American (although I'm in Australia) but that's not inherently a bad thing.

I really don't like it as it sounds like a boys name and is from a film (early 90s/late 80s?) so it's very easy to date and certainly not a classic name.

I think it sounds like a character from 90210

It sounds dated to me. If it was a garment, it would be recognisably something very fashion-y from several seasons ago.
