Apparently the name Gary is dying out in the UK - but I love it! What are people's thoughts on the name?

Loving the Arryarchy Grin

As a vegan I humbly request that you do not call your child Gary - we have made that name our own now

I love Gareth but Gary would send me back to my 80s childhood and not in a good way. That's not v logical though.

You could name Gareth and shorten to Gary informally?

Call your baby whatever you like and don't worry what other people think, certainly don't ask people's opinions! We had all sorts of comments and looks with my sons name but I don't care because me and my husband love it and it was my beautiful granddads name Smile

Well, since plenty of people are MN are so keen to have their special snowflake have a totally unique name and be the only one in the entire county with that name, Gary seems like a good suggestion!

Larry is above Barry.

Then there is 'Arry.

Looks like we have an 'ary / 'arry hierarchy.. ( an 'aryarchy 😂)

Harry > Gary > Barry

🤔 Mmm, I'm guessing Larry would be after Barry.

Oh well, made myself laugh...

It's my brothers name, he would be horrified at the thought of it making a come back. He hates it!

Gary is not as bad as Barry.

I like Garrett, Gareth and Garrison.
I suppose Gary is not as popular, as it once was.

I know a toddler called Garrett, Gary for short, and he really suits it. I think it's Fab

"Why is Harry ridiculously popular but Gary so disliked. Harry and Gary sound practically the same...."

Because they're totally different names, like Roy and Joy (which you'd expect to be used for different sexes, so get a different reaction).

Change a sound in a word and you change the meaning. As anyone who's had a lisping toddler who says 'truck' as 'fuck' knows all too well.

No - same league as Gavin and Kevin, you just wouldn't.

Harry is fine though

Awful name. No different than Shane and Wayne here.

On the other hand, I like Brian.

I don't mind the name Gary. It's ok. At least it wouldn't be too common.

I understand that it's not the same as standard cheese made from animal milk but it sounds a bit cannibalistic calling the vegan cheese Gary though.

Eating a Gary sandwich, Gary on toast, let's sprinkle a bit of grated Gary on the dinner.....

My dad is called Garry. I like it.

Prefer double R spelling too.

Vegan cheese is made of coconut so it's not cheese so it should be called something else. So it's Gary.
