Baby names

Does a girls name exist that isn't overly popular, sound similar to something overly popular, about to become overly popular or just plain boring or dated?

Really don't want to go for the so called 'classic names', as it just seems so boring (I know for lots of people they're not boring, I just think they're dull), personally can't stand the Eva, Ava, Sophie, Lily names. Quite like harder sounding names like Edith, Enid, Maud, Agnes, but these may well be the next type of name to become fashionable. Completely get that people like the types of names I have mentioned, but can I avoid the above scenarios in any way. Friends who have recently had babies have gone for things like Cecily, Otto, Margot, Beatrice etc, but I know at least 2 under 6 months of each of these so I imagine they may become super popular as well. I know it shouldn't matter but it does! Hit me with ideas please...

Havetobecrazy, another Barbara! Grin

Out of interest, do you get called any nicknames? We generally call her Barbara but every now and then I call her Babs, but not sure I want to seriously call her that. I sometimes kid my husband that I call her Barbie when he's not around Grin

That's my name Mrsw28!
I have never met another in my generation only people who were my mum's age.
My youngest DD is called Coral, my DH chose the name and whilst I wasn't sure about it I don't know anyone with the same name.
I love using names no-one else has, now expecting another DD so not sure how I will choose this time!
My mum's family had some great names; Susan, Constance, Margaret and Sally.

Alexandra

Not over used. Not boring. Harder sounding. Lots of nn potential.

Cameron.. I know its more typically used as a boys name but an acquaintance recently called her new baby girl Cameron and calls her Cammie for short and the more I hear it the more I like it.
Ive actually read somewhere online that unisex names are in at the moment so you would be on trend without it being a popular name

Pick a name you like saying and a name that you think your child will enjoy being called. Worrying about how popular it may or may not be is pointless you cannot control what other people choose to call their children.

FWIW my DC with the incredibly popular name has yet to be in a class with any others whereas the one with the far less popular name is surrounded by name twins!

Sharon! It's a lovely name 'Rose of Sharon' and you get a song you can sing to her when she's little 'My Sharona', always useful!

I called my baby Barbara (last year), people often comment on how you don't hear the name much anymore.

I met a Morwenna recently - I thought that was a nice name - slightly hippy but maybe a bit celtic? Reminds me of Cadfael anyway.
