I don't really like it; I'm another one who thinks it's a bit insipid.

But, there are very few little Tims/Timmys/Timothys around at the moment, and there's nothing particularly old-fashioned about it; it's a timeless name, just not to my taste.

If you and your DP love it then use it

I also find it a bit wet, I'm afraid. I think it reminds me of 'timid'.

And that's not being sexist: I also find the names Sarah and Lucy a bit insipid.

I agree it's a weak name like Nigel or Trevor or Derek or Julian. Tim is better than Timothy. I also think of the Ronnie Corbett character with his overbearing mother telling him off, 'Language Timothy!' Although that's not a reference point for many people any more.

I really like it.

A lot of my DH's peers are called Timothy. It must have been really popular in Australia in the early-mid 80s.

I like it. Timothy is a type of grass so I always think of summer meadows when I hear the name.

If I were obsessed with 'weakness' in boys' names, I'd be asking myself what sort of messages about gender I'd internalised.

I quite like Timothy, though it will always be associated with the (admittedly cool, and probably the most intelligent of the lot) dog in the Famous Five series in my mind. Bear in mind that the overbearing, prematurely-middle-aged twelve year old leader of the Five, who spent his entire time issuing orders and patronising rural policemen and harassing farm wives for sandwiches and scones was Julian. Ju to his friends.

Yes I know a one-year-old Timothy. I like it. Makes me think of toothpaste or clean teeth for some reason. It's very crisp sounding.

Cody is referring to a very old sitcom called "Sorry" (topically, the Timothy character was played by Ronnie Corbett). It wasn't that good, and it hadn't gone down in the Great Classic Archives of Much Repeated Comdies.

Timothy is a fine name. I know several, but they're all about 35-40. Tim would be a refreshing change from Tom certainly.
