Who decided the name?

Was it a name you chose and DP agreed / liked it? The other way round? Were you lucky and you both chose the name? Did one of you have to fight to the death?

I like DD's name, it was on my list, maybe not my top choice. However, it was the only girls name DH would consider, so in my mind he chose IYSWIM?

DP picked DD's name. We had nothing and I remember talking to him whisky in was at work and he had a day off. He told me to ring him back in '10 minutes' and he'd have the name. Rang him back and he had 5 names.... They included Bonnie and Connie but his last name was the one

From that moment our baby girl had a name.... I was maybe 30w at this point and we found out it was a girl at 16w.

With our first dc (boy but we didn't know his gender until birth) we only had 1 name. Think DP suggested it and I thought it was perfect so from day dot we had our boys name....never had a girls name though. It took us 70w of pregnancy to find one!!

I chose DS name. At first Dh said he did not like it, but could not give me one alternative that he liked. So after waiting till DH was 5 days old, we decided on my suggestion.

With DD, we had decided on a family name, but when she was born we thought of another which we thought suited her and then could not decide. So we asked DS (3) to choose between the two names. He chose the family name and we went with that. She is glad as she does not like the other name.

With DD I was on my own, so it was all my say, but with the baby we're ttc for DP is choosing the name, as baby will have my surname. He currently likes Amity for a girl, still not sure about boys name, though.

I used my favourite names, for their first names, and DH used his favourite names, for their middle names! Worked out very well :)

First time round we agreed a girl's name quickly and easily.....but not a boy...she was a girl (& has both her grandmothers' names as middle names). Second time around DH was convinced we were having another girl so agreed to the boy's name that I liked but we had no name for a girl.... And were light years apart in our ideas!!! He was a boy!! (With both his papas' names as middle names!) We didn't try for a third!!! I could name babies all day long....but my ex...one girl and one boy was as much as he could contend with!!! I should have held out for Angharad and Sebastian though!!! Still LOVE those names!!!!

DH had been in love with DS1s name since childhood- even wished he'd been called it himself. Luckily, I thought it was a fantastic name and agreed immediately. DS1 loves it.
DS2 was given the only name in the world we could agree on. Neither of us liked the other's ideas.
DD was my choice. Decided on it when I was pg with DS1. By the time I was pg with DD (last) DH was totally set on it, too.

We have a cross-cultural marriage, so needed a name from each culture. But in his culture the father names the children. I decided to accept this, but said please choose names my family can pronounce. Early on he told me his choice of girl's name - unusual, not one I'd have chosen, but I liked it.
Well into the pregnancy he kept saying I still don't have a boy's name. So I told him what I'd like. A very common English name. DH didn't want anything so common, but I said ok, but there are many versions of the same name. We didn't talk about it again.
At the birth, he announced the name - a version of the one I chose, which is just perfect for our son. Better even than the English version. Unfortunately I can't pronounce the other name (I also can't pronounce DH's cultural name). But I like the meaning and it was DH's grandfather's name.

I suggested it, dh loved it. It is the only name we both loved, a girls name and we didn't know sex. Luckily she was a girl or he would have been nameless for ages (and I was glad to be able to use the name!)

2nd baby was a DS. We had a agreed on a name suggested by me but when he was born it just wasn't him. Dh suggested a name after 2 days although I hadn't considered it before it suited him and I love it on him now at 7mo.

We had a rather different system. DH got to choose if a boy - I would have chosen if a girl. No discussion of names beforehand. I found out what DS' name was whilst they were sewing me up after the EMCS! Luckily I loved it. Middle names had already been specified though in advance - family names (my father and brother's mn).

I wanted to use an old family name for DC1 (didn't find out sex beforehand) but DH couldn't pronounce it properly with his Scottish accent. He then suggested another name, closely sounding to the original and we both loved it. So really, DH chose DS1's name which was Carter.

DS2 we knew what we were having before hand. I only had 2 names on my list - Lachlan or Sullivan. My frontrunner by far was Sullivan, DH decided he liked it too, wasn't as keen on Lachlan.

Thankfully we both have same taste in names.

DP suggested a girl's name even before we were TTC and it just sort of became the name we knew we'd use. I liked the long version but didn't think too much about the short version, even though logically I knew we'd always use the short version. So DD kind of has a name I slightly don't like - as in, if you'd asked me 6 years ago whether I'd ever have a DD called Kate (example), I'd have said no way.

But it's her, and I like it. And I appear to be weird in liking the fact she was sort of presented to me with a name already, and not one I'd invested lots of imagination in to.

DD1's name was proposed fairly early on by DH, I initially hated it but came to like it after a few months of deliberation.

DD2's name was put forward by me after finding it in a baby name book. (Was much harder to find a name we both liked second time round!)

Whilst my gorgeous partner was pregnant we both wrote 2 lists of 10 names, boys and girls.

We did them away from each other and compared.
Any that matched were added to the final list for both and then we discussed them and chose our favourite.

DP came back from Afghanistan and exclaimed has he came through the door we should call DS "enter name"

We had been unusure for weeks and I was past 35weeks and tired/fed up and had been on an emotional rollercoaster of a tour, so I agreed. DS arrived and the name was perfect. I chose the middle name.
