I've just stumbled across the name Luna, and I think I'm totes in love with it.

What are people's opinion on it? It's not a name you hear very often!

Really dislike it for a child.....only because it reminds me of lunatic, also our cat is called Luna.
I used to teach in a nursery and It got really common. We had 4 luna's at one point.... but its totally upto you!

I also think of it as a footballer/Wag name.

If you call a child Luna it is inevitable that she will be called lunatic at school. Might you be better with Louisa?

I love it, but then my 4 year old is a big fan of Earth to Luna. La la lalala Luna! Loooo-naaah!

Lughnasa was a pagan festival, yes. Celebrating the god Lugh iirc. August is Lunasa in Irish too. :)

I think Luna is a very pretty name but unfortunately I do think of lunatic when I hear it!

My brain always, always fills in '...-tic' when I hear Luna.

So, no. Not a fan.

Loony, Lunatic... Just no.

OP its lovely. Sick of these boring comments about dogs name, guinea pigs names, know a horse called this or that....such completely pointless comments!! If we all listed every single pets name we have heard of most names would fall under one of them, it really doesn't matter.

Gorgeous name but I can't get past the Lunatic part, sorry

I instantly think Harry Potter, but as I'm considering Ronnie for a boy I don't think that's a bad thing Smile

It's a bit 'out there' for my tastes but I think it's a lovely name for someone else's kid!

I think of it as a bit of a footballer/WAG name.

It sounds quite pretty if you ignore the lunatic/moon connotations.

The kids called our girl cat Luna. I like it. We considered it for dd but vetoed owing to Harry Potter association. I think it stands alone as a good name though, all of that asides.

I know a couple of baby Lunas so I think it's getting more popular, but not massively so. It is pretty but I do have to stop myself from adding -tic on the end.

Wish I hadn't called the cat Luna as I'd def have considered it for our baby girl.

Love it. Doesn't work with our surname. Our kid would essentially be 'Moon Moon'

It's becoming quite popular now (my mum works in a primary school so keeps me up to date with the trending names) it's quite common for dogs too, I'm a professional dog groomer and have a few Luna's on my books, not a horrible name though but I do associate it with lunatic as others have mentioned Grin

Love it. Dp won't allow me to use it on baby due in a few weeks but that's only because I'm a harry Potter fanatic and he isn't.

I associate it as a animals name

I know a horse, a dog and few cats called Luna

It's really lovely.

I think it's lovely. Bit on the hippy/alternative side but that isn't a bad thing

The Harry Potter thing wouldn't have occurred to me. I think its a pretty name but Frank Lampard has a little girl called Luna, so I think its a bit 'footballer'. That said, all names have someone else you can associate with don't they, so I say if you like it go for it.

I love it. But know too many dogs called Luna.

There's an evil Princess Luna in My Little Pony. Well not evil perhaps, that's overstating it, but she has a bit of a shady past.
That's probably a fairly obscure reference, but I do think the Harry Potter one would be more well known. Still, if you like the name, why not?

Next door's cat is called Luna. She is lovely but very noisy.
