Samuel and Daniel ... too rhyme-y? (Even though full names aren't / won't be used)

Hi everyone,
We have DS1 called Samuel (but known as Sammy or Sam) and due DS2 in September. The only name both DH and I both agree on and love is Daniel, (to be known as Dan or Danny). I was really happy with the choice (but we won't tell anyone irl until after the baby us here) but there is a bit of me that is having a wobble and is worried about the fact that 'Samuel and Daniel' almost rhyme ... even though it will be quite rare that I would say both names in full together.
Does it sound daft to you?
Other names we liked were Benjamin, but as surname begins with a T I didn't want him known as 'Ben T' at school. Also don't want a similar first initial to us (no S, L or J) and we want a traditional name that shortens. DH has a big family a lot of names are already taken.

Newt If that were to happen, wouldn't they both go to their mum/dad/person who calls them? It's not like they will have the same name.

The reason I think rhyminess might matter is if you call for one and they can't quite hear which name you said.

First of all, congratulations OP! First time I see someone on MN who knows the name is important and does not choose a pet's name for a child

Both names are lovely and I do not think they are rhymey? because they are two separate people, they won't be known as Sam and Dan or something like that, I have never heard of someone doing that, not even with twins.

They sound great together and Daniel is a wonderful name, don't overthink this and let a bunch of strangers talk you out of your favorite name.

I actually know two families with a Samuel and Daniel ,all of the boys are known by their full names and it has never seemed a problem.

My cousins (brothers) are called Daniel and Samuel, known as Dan and Sam. We've never thought they sounded like they rhyme too much, it's just their names, they suit them.

My ds is Samuel, when I was expecting dc2 (who is a girl!) our boys names were Joshua and Henry.

I also know a Samuel and Oliver.

I think that Thomas is really lovely though and goes beautifully with Samuel (which is of course the best name ever!)

I don't think they're too rhymey, in fact a younger me must've thought they went well together, since I had twin teddy bears called Daniel and Samuel and invisible children who were also twins and called Daniel and Samuel

Other name suggestions - I know a Samuel whose brother is Joel, and another whose brothers are Josh and Nathan.

I also know a Reuben, Joseph and Stephen, all under four, which all have a similar feel to Samuel and Daniel.

We are now considering Thomas, because I'm worried that DS1 will find the baby having the same name (Edward, nn Ted) as his comforter (Teddy) confusing / upsetting - he will be 3.5 when DS2 is due. I don't think I love Thomas as a name though, and I've had waverings back towards Daniel. I just want to find a name we both love, without feeling like we've picked the a second best one because our favourites were ruled out for various reasons.

Can anyone give me anymore names for inspiration? DH comes from a big family and a lot of names are already taken. Less than 8 weeks left till EDD; I get the feeling he is going to be 'baby' for a while ...

I think it sounds a bit silly. I do know an Isabella and an Annabella sibling combo though which is much dafter. I think Samuel is a great name but there are nicer names out there than Daniel in my opinion. Edward nn Ted is fab. Congratulations!

I know brothers Dan and Sam and it's never occurred to me they may be similar before. I think they're fine.

Thanks for all your views :) I think Edward (Teddy) is a strong contender now (although I'm having a bit of a pregnant-and-over-emotional moment so will see how it goes and mull it over for a while).

I know of brothers called Albert and Herbert (long deceased). So in comparison Samuel and Daniel are fine. Go for it.

A bit silly tbh. A woman I used to know had two boys called Theo and Leo which I always thought sounded a bit daft.

I think they sound fine, but for alternatives I like Joseph (Joe), Oliver (Ollie), Edward (Eddie) & William (Billy).

Samuel & Daniel are fine together.

Too similar, as is Sam/my and Dan/ny imo. I'd choose different vowels, like Samuel and William or Samuel and Nathan.
