I love it's simplicity and I think it goes nicely with ds Eli!

What do you think?

I thought we had settled on Flora or Juno but dh has told me he is not sure about these (though we are not eliminating them yet....silently gives dh the evils Hmm )

It makes me think of Willa-Jean from the Ramona Quimby books (Ramona's friends little sister?).

Sorry, I don't really like it - it sounds unfinished to me (not that I'm suggesting you add Jean!).

I love Flora, and quite like Juno.

Willa Cather's full name was Wilella by the way (according to Wiki!). I had thought it was short for Wilhelmina - which I love too... Perhaps we should have a list of fab female author names- Emily, Virginia, Edith, Aphra.... Grin

I'm sorry I don't really like it but I do like Willow.

Juno is lovely though.

I love it!
It was my number one name - but DH said no :(

Jamie-Lee Curtis' character in the film Fierce Creatures was Willa Weston, there's also a True Blood character I think? I don't know if either of these things put you off it!

I love Willa and we would have had it as DS's middle name if he had been a girl. I posted a thread on it at the time if you do a search.

I love Willa Cather.

I have an Eli and I love your boy list, especially Ezra, Jude and Cassius. In fact we had Ezra on our list as well. Willa is nice but I think I prefer Willow. I think a British Willa might have trouble in the playground with "willy" jokes. TBH I'm not sure it goes all that well with Eli when said out loud.

Sorry, really don't like Willa. Agree it sounds like an unfinished question - will ya?

Juno not keen on either - I think if sounds like a boys name / too like junior. And didn't like the film!

Flora best of the bunch but with the margarine might be a few jokes for her there!

I totally love Willa, Juno and Flora (in that order) and I know one of each (all under 8)!

Struggling for a boy's name at the moment so would love to see what would have been your shortlist, seeing as we have such similar taste.

Boys are called Will all the time workout people taking the piss.

Report
Minnieisthedevilmouse · 04/06/2014 20:15

Awful.

Imagine at 14 said by lots of school boys "will ya? Bet SHE does!" Snigger snigger

"Will (y)a like fries with that?"

"Will (y)a .... My ....?"

Just how much do you hate a child to give them that?

I'm getting the impression from here that anyobe who had heard of Willa Cather thinks that it is a fabulous and cool name and everyone else thinks it's dreadful. It probably falls into the same sort of category as Rumer, so unless a celebrity decides to call their daughter Willa, or a Hollywood adaptation of one of her novels become a box office hit, it's probably going to be disliked by most people, which I think is a shame.

Sorry.

I wasn't being PA, I was aiming for tongue-in-cheek with a soupcon of self deprecating humour wrt the marmite issue. Clearly I missed the mark...

I bloody LOVE Willa! I suggest it on every single name thread I join in on and no one else seems to like it Sad

I definitely think you should use it

I like Willa, although that's mostly because of Willa Cather.

I LOVE it. Was top of our girls list with DC1, but she turned out to be a he!

Now pregnant again, but have since become good friends with a couple who have a Willa. Dammit!

Go for it. I wish I could!
