Esmeralda - love or hate? And a middle name?

Current top choice for DD2 - nickname Essy rather than Esme which is getting a bit common and can sound horrid yelled out: "EZZZZ MAIIII".

She could be Mel when older I guess. We also need a traditional English middle name to go with it - current favourites are Rose or Paige. Ideally 1 syllable.

I actually rather like it, seems strong and different. Nicknames follow later Ralda comes naturally but I'm sure you could think up something a bit nicer?

EweAreHere don't have such high aspirations for my children. Just want them to have a truly happy and carefree life. That being said Esmeralda is a respectable name in Spain and Rose Smith is so far from our last name 😊 Thanks for input though

I think it's fine. I don't love it, but I like it.

What a pointless comment. If she were a high court Judge, she would be addressed as Ms Justice Smith, not Esmeralda.

High Court Justice Esmerelda Rose Smith.

Sorry. I don't see it.

Apologies MrsMeeseeks, wanted to see the experience of someone else that names her child the name we are considering in the UK. Thank you everyone for input. Only name that we both really like at the moment...

Bah, stoopid zombie threads. So annoying when people do that.

Everyone will spell it incorrectly- as shown on this thread!

Zombie thread from three years ago. I doubt you'll get a reply

Several posters spell Esmeralda incorrectly though, as always Grin

I don't mind it but I prefer Emerald which is pretty and unusual, but a little less flowery - I like Em, Emmie (and Merry, which I hadn't thought of before this thread) as nicknames.

neonrainbow · 29/01/2017 08:58

Esmeralda is beautiful. Id have nn merry.

Grobagsforever did you go for Esmeralda in the end? What has been your experience? We are considering it as it's unusual in the UK and DH is Spanish but we noticed that many people hate it as it's kind of a marmite name. Not sure if you will even get to see the message as it's been a few years since this post

Report
florascotia · 05/05/2014 09:34

Emerald could be shortened to Em or Emmie or Emma, or Merry (as suggested above)

grobagsforever · 05/05/2014 09:00

Imedla-brings up imagines of that politician's wife who had tons of shoes! Emerald is cute, not sure what we'd shorten it too- Em?

Really don't like it I'm afraid - for me it conjures up pictures of the Ugly sisters in Cinderella / Pantomime Dame type person. Sorry!
