We have a short list of sorts and would like some opinions please. What do you think of any of these and what's your favourite?
We don't want anything too popular but also don't want him to feel embarrassed if he doesn't share our taste!

Alvin
Felix
Baxter
Robin
Julius nn Jules
Irwin
Irvin
Lance
Arnold
Alexander but nn Lex not Alex or Xander

I meant Irwin, not Edwin. Baxter is also not good, but Basil is ok if that's a option.

Alexander is the only nice one and you know his mates will call him Alex. Lex is a bit daft sorry

You've picked some good names there, quite a few are on my list too.

At my scan, a few weeks ago, I shouted out that my baby looked like Julius Caesar (there's a pretty good sized nose on the baby) and said that I'd be calling my little one Julius, which my hubby didn't seem to be too pleased about!

Alexander is a good solid name, I'm sure you know the meaning; I always thought this would be my first choice; my problem is that I've taught too many naughty boys called Alex!

I'm sure you'll decide on the right name to suit your baby when he appears! :-)

Alvin - and the Chipmunks
Felix - weedy
Baxter - icky tinned soup
Robin - weedy
Julius nn Jules - I like this one (woo hoo!)
Irwin - surname, not one I can imagine as a first name
Irvin - same
Lance - Armstrong (Boooooooooooooooo!)
Arnold - Schwarznegger
Alexander but nn Lex not Alex or Xander - this is ok

Really like Julius! And Robin is nice too.

I like Robin, Felix and Alexander (it's my brother's name and I've always loved it). Would definitely keep these in the mix.

Would remove Alvin (there's no getting away from those chipmunks!), Irwin/Irvin/Arnold, all of whom sound like cantankerous old men, and Lance, which just sounds unpleasant. Julius and Baxter are OK, although I've come across loads of dogs called Baxter (and I'm not usually one to dismiss a name because it sounds like a pet!)

And I'm definitely with you about preferring Laurence - infinitely better imo.
