But in current English the verb 'to hector' means to bully, to torment. Just googled it.

and, btw, it's a great name!

'Hector' from the Greek does not mean to harry or bully.

Just wanted to point out that Hector means defender originally. It was Achilles in Greek mythology who tormented the Trojans after slaying Hector. Hector was brave and a good father, son and brother...
...and Eric Bana was the only good reason for watching the film Troy!

I have a baby Casper who is just coming up for 3 weeks old. Reactions have been mixed. Lots love it, but most of the boys in my form (age 13) have said it's a posh ghost's name. I love it though :)

Prefer Hugo to Hector.

I know a toddler Kasper and just held a baby Hugo yesterday and they are both gorgeous! I like them equally. I think Caspar goes best with your other children's names (in my opinion).

Caspian is fab!

Caspar just makes me think friendly ghost ( even though spelt differently) sorry. And Hugo is very posh kind of trying too hard.

I think I'd probably go for Hugo, then Hector.

I wouldn't like Clara and Caspar together (especially when there's just one child with the odd initial out).

Hector or Hugo. Caspar is a ghost...

The meaning of Hector (bully, tormentor) would put me off, sorry

Oh, I like it even less now. What a horrible meaning.

elcranko · 30/09/2013 16:01

Hugo.

I love all three. Hector just wins over Caspar with Hugo in third. Great names.

I have a Casper and I'm common as muck. HTH

I don't think Hugo is posh anymore. It's just broken into the top 100.

I love it and Caspar.

I like Caspar best from your list and I think it goes nicest with your other dc's names.

To hector/hectoring has such a terrible meaning that I would hate to use it to name my child.

Hugo is nice but I'm less keen on the Heeeooo sound at the beginning. Prefer a normal 'h' as in Henry, Hector or hug.

Caspar is the best from your suggestions.

I don't either get the obsession with names being 'posh' or 'common' as most names start off posh and then become popular. Names like Sebastian, Quentin, Henry, Clementine, Arabella were all seen as 'too posh' only a few years ago - now they seem fairly normal (well, where we are anyway Smile).
