Luke: Classic yet Cool, or Dull and Boring?

What do you think?

I'm torn. Luke is DH's current favourite name, and probably my second favourite that we both agree on.

DH thinks it's a classic yet cool name, and though I like it I have the slightest feeling it might be a bit....dull.

DH also likes the Starwars connection, I'm less bothered about that!

So, what do we think? Opinions and alternatives welcome!

Hurrah for Morphy Brown! Although it is a touch racist-there is much to be said for the French ruling that names have to be 'proper' state regulated names. No stupid celeb made up names, nothing that will mortally wound kids at school nothing that they will want to change when they are old enough.(yes I'm looking at you Mr Bowie)
And my son is Luke. Well actually it's Lucien (ok a smidge pretentious, but he was luke at school, now he is grown up he has adopted his full name and loves it. Alexander though, fucking hates his name and tells everyone it's Lex.

Another vote for not v exciting but fine. Hard to dislike but don't think could be classed as cool.

Cool hand Luke.

Lucky Luke.

I prefer Luca though as long as you do not live on the 2nd floor

And I actually teach quite a few Tims too so that is also not in the same league as Dean and Colin.

Tut.

Dean and Colin are not even on the same page as Luke! OP don't listen! Luke is a gorgeous name - classy and classic and all Lukes are lovely.

It's official.

Very nice classic name.

It's nice enough but not massively exciting.

All the Lukes I know are lovely people though.

Cool and classic. Makes me think of Cool Hand Luke too.

Luke came back into fashion in the last quarter of the 20th century. Before then it had not been popular for a good few decades, so I would call it a cyclical name, rather than timeless. Out of the four Gospel writers, I'd say only Matthew has been constant in popularity. John and Mark have declined while Luke has risen.

Love Luke. Though Lucas is a good compromise.

Lovely name, said as a mum to a 7 year old Luke! (Up until last September he was the only Luke in his school, but 2 older Lukes have now joined te school).
