Hector or Edgar?

My partner favours Edgar and I favour Hector. We both would tolerate each others' choice.

I can't decide which to go for; really worried about getting it wrong and having regrets.

Love Edgar, loathe Hector.

Hector, obviously (see nickname).

And incidentally all names are strange/statementy when you just haven't heard them before and haven't read The Iliad

Victoria was made-up
Elizabeth was some insanely obscure Biblical name no-one used before Queenie

Etc. etc.

Do it OP!

Hector all the way! Mighty Trojan warrior.

Edgar in King Lear was a right drip.

I'm certainly not trying to make a fashion statement! Thanks again for all your comments.

Not a fashion statement? Odd thing to say. They're names the OP likes, and they're hardly up there with Moon Unit or Dweezil.

These are the only names we agree on. We'd both be happy with either.

Neither. Be sure that you both love the name - it's a whole life thing not a fashion statement.

Edgar. Good Viking name. Wink Shortens nicely to Eddie to sound more usual.

Both are lovely.

Id probably go with Edgar so he can use Ed if he wants a more casual name.

Hector I find slightly hard to say for some reason.

Neither. They are both horrible. Neither of you should have to just 'tolerate' a name. Pick something else (and nicer) that you both love.

Early October; and yes, I will let you know what we go for!

Thanks guys; my heart is with Hector. Otto was an option but feel it's not serious enough.

Hector, without a doubt. Fab name.

I love Edgar. It was my second choice for ds. I don't like Hector at all.

spatchcock · 12/06/2013 14:45

Hector is brilliant. Also makes me think of Troy - Hector was a Trojan prince who led Troy against Greece.

No one, but no one, uses the verb 'hector' these days.

Edgar is a bit wet sounding, imo.

poppydaisy · 12/06/2013 14:12

I don't like the sound or meaning of Hector at all, sorry. Edgar sounds nicer and has nicer nickname options imo.

Hector is ok if you live somewhere than pronounces the letter H.

Edgar is an ugly sounding word.

I think both are awful but would probably grow to like them in real life.

Wow...neither!
