Philippa Eve or Felicity Winter?

We're having twin girls, and we're really undecided on a name for our our second twin. Vivienne Gray (nn Vivi, and Gray is a family name) is a likely candidate for twin 1's name, and we're thinking about Philippa (nn Pippa/Pip) or Felicity (nn Flick) for the second name.

Which do you like better, and why? Middle name would probably be Eve, Winter, or Eleanor. All of them are meaningful to us, so not just aesthetic choices.

I love the second name Winter. I really like Phillipa.

Felicity Winter sounds lovely. And I really like the nickname Flic, but without the k as it seems less harsh

Felicity, but I'm biased! I hate Flick and use Fliss.

I agree with Theas, Phillipa Gray and Vivienne Winter.

Those names are so lovely, well done OP!

Thought vivienne gray sounded familiar....

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vivean_Gray

In case it matters to you.

Philippa Winter

THen both girls have a similar pattern of name ie surname as middle name.

Or Philippa Gray and Vivienne Winter! Actually I think you should have your own little VW LOL

Philippa Eve/Eleanor gives P E as initials and the almost certainty that now or in the future she'll be PEC PED PEE (noo never!) PEG PET PEN PEW etc PEE being the worst, so not that bad, but still. Imagine sending her to secondary with PEE embroidered on her kit...

Felicity for me too. But like others I love Vivienne and Eleanor together more. But that's probably irrelevant!

Felicity is a lovely name - beautiful, elegant and feminine! I'm not keen on Phillippa/Pippa/Pip/Pippi at all, sorry.

I really dislike Philippa. It's horsey without any redemptive prettiness. And I don't like any names that are feminised versions of men's names.

What about Fliss for an alternative nn for Felicity?

I like Philippa Eve, but Winter is more similar to Gray as a mn. I can't stand the name Felicity but I am 40 and think it's one if those names younger mums seem to like.

I think all your names are beautiful, so it is hard to choose.

I like Winter as a middle name and lean towards Felicity Winter. Philippa Winter would work for me too (less keen on Eleanor).

But they are all lovely, so you can't go wrong.

Felicity Winter

Also dislike Flick. If you are the sort that always uses nn, go for Pippa.

Lovely names. Felicity Winter for me.

Can't decide! Probably phillipa (Pip) just takes it. Love Vivienne!

I think Vivian is traditionally the male version, but even that gets hijacked for girls Grin

Linguaphile · 23/05/2013 19:37

Is Vivien not the boys' spelling? I actually like the less frilly version but was told it was more for boys!

They would probably get called Flip and Flick

Thanks, littlepeas. I'd be inclined to agree, but wonder if the pair of them together would sound a bit too similar (when said out loud).and maybe a little on the horsey side...

I don't like either of them, but do like Eleanor. Eleanor Winter would be lovely. Love Vivien, but as you see I prefer the less frilly spelling.

I am a Philippa, known as Pip, and feel my name has served me well. I like Felicity, but have never been keen on Flick as a nickname. I think Philippa and Felicity go the best together of the 3 names.
