Iris Clementine and Cassius Angelo....the have come about after insane indecision. We love the names but just want to get a feel for what kind of reactions we may get to them! Smile

Lovely girls names. What about Cosmo for a boys name?

AllyEttie Angelo is the op fathers name she said it up above. Both gorgeous names.

I like Cassius, but really dislike Angelo. Maybe it you are part Italiano, but even then- doesn't sound too great with a fabulous antiquity name like Cassius. Odd mix of emperor and guido.

I like: Cassius Alexander
Cassius James
Cassius Alistair
Cassius Quentin
Cassius Reuben
Cassius Kristoph
Cassius Rudolph

Iris Clementine is lovely though.

"I just worry other kids might find it very unusual!"

I wouldn't worry about this. Young DCs don't have enough experience of the world to know what's unusual IMO! I worked in an inner London school a while back. A very large number of the DCs had names which mumsnet would consider unusual, the majority of them because their names came from a wide range of non-English cultures, but also with a sprinkling of "trendy" unusual names too. The kids were nonplussed, they learnt each others' names and got on with it.

It's adults who have issues with unusual names IMO, and anyway Cassius isn't what I'd class as very unusual. Not many DCs are called it, but it's a name people have generally heard of isn't it?

Great names both. Cass is a nice NN, I went to school with one and have always seen Cass as masculine.

Love Cassius, and it works well with Angelo now you've explained the connection to your DF. (Otherwise would have thought it a bit random, assuming you are in the UK.)

I love Iris and Clementine, but also feel a bit odd about two noun names.

Iris and Clementine are two of my most favourite girl's names! I wanted my DD to have Clementine as her middle name (and it would have suited her too) but DH vetoed it.

Double thumbs up from me!

That's good lockets, I suppose children just accept names it's the adults who can be mean.

Cassius, however pronounced, is a baddy in Julius Caesar. It sounds like a mean name to me.

Like your girl's name a lot though.

I think Iris is lovely. Not so keen on Clementine but it's fine. Not sure about Cassius. And I think the usual pronunciation in the UK would be Cas-i-us

It can be pronounced either way and I personally just love it pronounced Cass I us. Both ways are correct though.

AKiss: "Cassius Clay pronounced his name correctly Cash-us though"

Could that not have been his American accent plus just his own take on the name? Can anyone else clarify?
