Tig?

Where does this girl's name come from? Is it short for something? My daughter loves Woolly and Tig on Cbeebies and it makes me wonder every time I watch it. The family in it are Scottish...is it a gaelic/scottish name?

ooh i love the name Antigone - imagine if your surname was Tigglesworth though?
just one thing, wasn't Antigone the mother of Oedipus? Shock

The Tiggy I knew as a child was nicknamed that as she used to growl like a tiger in her playpen. Not sure if she paced as well.

Tegan becomes Tiggy, too.

Tig in the program's real name is Betsy but I thought maybe they took Taggart (her real father who is also plays her dad on the show is Taggart) and as a 'show biz' joke changed it to Tig for her. FYI her real aunt plays her mom and her big sister is her 'narrator'

My parents and other family members call me tiggy as I was a big baby. Came from tiggy lumps.
I'm now 40 and don't mind being called tiggy, althoough sometimes have to explain why.

I agree with it being a obvious nickname for Antigone. There was a girl a couple of years below me at school called Antigone. I think it's a lovely name!

Thanks all. I think it's quite a cute name for a child but you'd definitely need a longer version for when you're an adult. The child on the TV program is very, very cute and definitely suits the name.

Tiggy Legge-Bourke's nickname is something to do with Mrs Tiggywinkle the Beatrix Potter hedgehog.
