Name you love now or name you've always loved?

My favourite names seem to vary over the years but there are some names that, although they may not be my current number one, I've always really liked.

I was just wondering when you pick names for your children have you picked your current top name even if you haven't liked it for that long or one you've liked for a long time?

I just think if I pick one of the names I totally love at the mo, I'm more likely to go off it, whereas as there are a few names I've liked for as long as I can remember so I think these may be a better bet.

Would you pick the same names now if you named your children a while ago? I guess it's hard to judge if it's now the name of your much loved child!

I love my own name but couldn't use it if I had any daughters (which I don't) also love Eleanor and Rose.

Took me ages to get used to ds3s name as ex chose it but I think it's the best name ever now.

Having trouble picking a name for ds4 at the moment - there are no boys names around that I love.

As a teenager my favourite names were Scott, Tracy and Debbie

Claudia is lovely, I agree. I also love the names that have become so commonplace for our generation, but seldom heard of when it comes to today's babies - so I love Matthew too. See also Luke and Peter.

I love Claudia. DH wasn't so keen and in the end we had a DS. Some friends mentioned that if they had a third DD they wanted to call her Claudia and I was (secretly) all NOOOO! (they are very good friends and it would be weird to use it if they had).

Definitely want to use it if we do have a DD.

My favortie girls name has been Amélie for years now. We wanted a french name for our dd (husband is French), but he spent the whole 9 months of the pregnancy hating it. A few days before she was born (after I had given up asking him), he decided he loved it! Our DD is 11 months now and we both still love it!

My favourite boy's name is Matthew and it has been for as long as I can remember! I was given a teddy bear by my aunty when I was born, and when I was 2 I named it Matthew after the baby son of a family friend. Ever since then I've loved the name and amazingly for such a common name, have never ever met a Matthew or Matt that I didn't like.
DH's two best mates are Matts, and we both have cousins with Matthews, but still I'd want to use it if we EVER manage to get pregnant. Fortunately DH loves it as much as I do :-)

StillSquiffy My DS's name is Cassius He's due in four weeks. It's been my favourite boys name for years now.

For a girl I always loved Charlotte or Jessica but I've gone off them both now.

DS's name was in the bag years before he was born and we still love it.
DD's name was a compromise and she was 10 days old before DH and I found something we could sort of agree on (and I still don't' really love it)

If I had more DD's they would be called Antigone (Tigger) and Madeleine
If I had more DS's they would be called Cassius and Hugo

I never had a favourite name until pregnant with dd- but then found the perfect name which is my absolute no. 1.

Then before getting pregnant with forthcoming ds (due in a few weeks), I found my perfect boy's name. Was overjoyed to find out he was a boy not because I wanted 'the pair' (didn't give a monkeys what sex the baby was) but because I would get to use my two favourite names in the world.

If we have another child after this it will be a struggle to name them. Although I do secretly love Bridget...

I used to love Demelza when I was younger. I still think it's quite pretty but didn't add it to the list before DD came along. She has a name that I've liked for a few years - it was my great grandmother's - and I managed to persuade DH that it should be top of the list. I also like Guinevere but DH wasn't having it. We've gone with something a bit more user friendly! My favourite boy's names were Max and Sam but both were used by friends a while ago and so they didn't make the shortlist...

I LOVE Nathaniel. But DH hates it. I love Ned for a boy too. I don't know why I love it so...and I LOVE Noa for a girl.. I really like unusual names and names that are not very popular.

I came upon my favourite ever name when started new job and it was name of a colleague's daughter. She tragically died so obviously out of the question, though i do wish i didnt love it so much still as hard to think beyond it. (I'm not quite as heartless as I sound: we are no longer colleagues and never really were friends, but obviously we know people in common).

When DD born (after above events) we had not agreed a girl's name and actually called her our joint No 2 choice for a day before deciding it was too serious. My husband came up with her name on the spur of the moment and the minute he said it we both knew it was right, and still adore it. It's a classic and in top 10 or 20, but we don't yet know any other girl with same name.

Interestingly our easily agreed total favourite boy's name for DC1 (Tom) now in doubt for DC 2. If it's not too weird I might eat my words and use DD1's "first name" that we ditched (Rachel) if DC2 also a girl. Another classic.

I had four favourite names for DD that DH vetoed for various reasons - Tamzin he just didn't like, Janet and Nicola because there are close family called Janette and Nicole, and Jennifer because when DH's father was born his mother had wanted a girl called Jennifer and told my FiL that frequently throughout his childhood.

DD has three names; the first two are respectively mine and DH's favourites of all the girls' names we could agree on, and the third is after my grandmother and a good friend who'll be one of DD's godmothers.

I have 3 children all with names that i have loved for over 10 years before i gave them to them. by the time i did they were extremely popular umph--

By baby 4, i had nothing.

I really thought i would end up choosing a name that i would go off because i hadn't liked it for years- but i love it.

And it was never even mentioned until 2 days after she was born!

I loved Annabelle, but this was one of DH's ex flings. So can't be used. Under any circumstances. We've pretty much had our names planned for 3.5 years (time of trying) so we're totally ready, although my mum reckons you only know when you see your baby. So, I'm going to be armed with other ideas, just in case. I don't think I could use a v. popular name but...on the popular name front, I have a very, very, very, very, very popular name for my age. There were 4 of us in the same class at junior school, one of us on every floor in halls at uni, and I have 3 friends with a variation in my close circle of friends. But I LOVE my name and wouldn't change it for the world. Although I use the nn version of it (which I prefer and always have done) and keep the posh name for formal occasions and doctors appointments. Win win in my opinion :)
