we are stuck! We love the name Louie but it is ds2's middle name - is this really bad? Will they hate us when they're old enough to realise. We need a French theme name and it's down to Pascal or Louie... Having the baby on tues (c-section)... Already got a Luc and jacques ... Help

My brother in laws, ironically called marc louis and louis pierre clearly went through this, and the elder basically now has no middle name, it is as if when the youngest one was named louis marc lost his middle name.

Don't do it. This happened to my brothers - the elder one decided that he didn't like his first name, would have liked to have swapped to his middle name instead, but couldn't because it is my younger brothers' name. He is still really annoyed with our parents for "giving his name away".

I also think Luc and Louie /Louis are too similar and run the risk of both being shortened to Lu/Lou at some point. There are loads of great French names you could choose instead.

I think ds2 might think you couldn't be bothered to give him his own name and what OneHandFlapping said.

It'll be hard enough for DS1 when DS2 arrives. Don't majke him give away his name as well!

Shouldn't think it would cause a problem and it is a nice name.
I absolutely love the suggestions Xavier, Etienne and also like Pascal.
Good luck tomorrow.

it really doesn't matter one bit.

my sister has done this out of sheer desperation, and her older son is chuffed that the baby has got his middle name. if Louie is the name that just feels right for your family then use it.

wishing you luck on Tuesday Grin

In all honesty I think it would be really bizarre for them to share names. My cousins who are siblings share a name, the girls middle name (which is unisex) is the boys first name. I have never understood it and just think it comes across as really lazy although I know you aren't being lazy!! Pick something else

I agree that Louie and Luc are too similar. In your shoes I'd go for Pascal or Etienne (which I LOVE, by the way)

Change ds2's middle name? Give ds2 another middle name, so that Louie is his 3rd name?

Is he old enough to know or care?

squoosh · 07/10/2012 22:32

Don't do it. The little fella deserves his own special name not a hand me down one.

Pascal is a gorgeous name that goes really well with Jacques and Luc!

Louie is lovely too but already belongs to DS2.

Go for Pascal!

Louie is too similar to Luc.

I did this. We then gave them both an extra middle name when they were 2 and 5 to make it less a possible future issue. So now my youngest has his big brothers second middle name.

Also happened to my husbands two brothers - my mil used her ds1 middle name as ds3 first name, hope that makes sense. If I had another girl I would consider using dd2 middle name as a first name.

This happened to DH and his brother ... same 2 names, swapped round. No problem for them.

Believe me we are not lazy, lol, we just really love the name, but the hours & hours, days, I've spent trawling through the alternatives! I am now going completely kooky wierd - so fair point!

Is ds2 young enough to change his middle name?

Report

Emile
Fabrice
Gerard
Gilbert
Gustav
Lucien
Orson
Patrice
Pierre
Raoul
