Sweet shop names?

DP has responsibility for picking a middle name for our 8 day old daughter Tamsin. He likes the sort of very literal names that usually people think better suit Disney characters and he likes names that he thinks suit the child's character. He is not in the least bit phased by name snobbery.

He gave our older daughter Saffron the middle name Pixie and you have to admit it suits her, she is a total Scamp, always happy and never still.

Little Tamsin is especially pink and white and delightfully sweet natured. So Daddy is looking at her thinking of sweeties, sugar and any and everything you can decorate with pink icing.

Tamsin Candy? Tamsin Sherbert? Tamsin Sugar? I see a field trip to the sweet shop before long, for name inspiration!

I thought you lovely ladies (and lovely lads) would perhaps enjoy joining in? What sweeties might pass for a name do you think? Go wild, this could be quite a fun thread!

I actually think it's really, well, sweet! I'm a Sam/Jack/Annie namer myself, but I do think Tamsin Sugarplum is lovely in its own way.

I was trying to think of something that could be autumnal too, since she's an October baby, but couldn't really. Pumpkin? Cinnamon? Nutmeg? :) (Actually like that one, I'm Megan and it's always been one of my nicknames.)

I loved Violet too.

I decided I really liked Clover as a name too, and thought he might be tempted thus, but he doesn't like it either. He thinks margarine and as much as I conjecture pinkness, whiteness, littleness, delicateness even the life-giving properties of the lucky little plant (all to do with Nitrogen)... Nope. He's still hearing Margarine.

Sugar though, Sugar is really nice (am am resisting the urge to say it's sweet). I will put that to him. Tamsin Sugar, yes, I reckon she and I could live with that.

He has gone remarkably quiet the last few days. I told him over dinner tonight I want several days notice of his final decision before registration because I need to decide if I'll accept it and if not he'll need a rethink. Hopefully this means I'll get time to put it up here for points of view too.

I just love the sweetshop idea! Tamsin Sugar and Tamsin Liquorice are my favourites, although I am such a big fan of Parma Violets that I would prob have to go for Tamsin Violet (and Violet is such a lovely, old-fashioned name)

Sorry for leaving you all hanging, I've still got no last word for you, but I do have booked a registrar's appointment so there is an end date set in stone and so he can't torture me with indecision for the entire 42 days/6 weeks

It's on 21st November, when she'll be just under 5 weeks. Which is as early as I thought he'd accept

I really would like a final answer myself now. He's still saying Tamsin Damson but he's really not made his mind up, it's more that Tamsin Damson is the current frontrunner. He can (and likely will) have more changes of mind yet.

This has made me want to be more inventive with my middle names! People have all sorts of different reasons for choosing their names - I really don't think there's any problem being inspired by how she looks right now.

I think Butterscotch has a nice ring to it, although it is a little too out-there for me.

I really like
Sundae
Angelica
Esterhazy
Genoise
Tiramisu
and Acacia

In fact I am stealing Acacia and Genoise for my girls name shortlist.

Will be interested to know what you finally decide upon!

Tamsin is a lovely name and perfectly sensible so I don't think you quite deserve the stick you are getting for going a bit out there with the middle name!

From the ones suggested so far I like Tamsin Sundae, Tamsin Coco and Tamsin Lolly best.

Butterscotch is quite nice, if it must be a sweet name Smile

What did you decide?

I do like Tamsin Apple, it reminds me of Mabel Lucie Atwell drawings, all rost cheeks and pudgy knees and sideways looks!

However I think Tamsin Blossom very fresh and sweet.

Tamsin Dolly? (dolly mixture?)

Tamsin Apple (if it's good enough for Gwyneth it's good enough for the apple of your eye!)
Tamsin Trixiebelle (back to Paula Yates)
Tamsin Scout (a la Demi)
Tamsin Honey
Tamsin Blossom
Tamsin Sienna (not exactly sweet but I think it's a lovely name)
Tamsin Tallulah (ditto)
Tamsin Plum

He's now saying he doesn't like any of that semi-sensible shortlist I made any more. He now likes...

Tamsin Butterscotch
Tamsin Demerera

and...

Wait for it...

Tamsin Damson

OMG Shock

If the cat caused me this much worry I'd have rehomed it years ago.
