What do you think of the name Langston?

Other contenders are Parker, Beckett, Elliott, Andrew and Maxwell...

Help! Only two weeks left (give or take a few) to make a decision.

Thank you!

i like Elliot and Andrew the best from your list. they are more classic.

I like Parker and Beckett. Like the suggestion of Drew.

How about:
Mach
Rigsby
Dawson
Casey
Crawford
Miller
Keenan
Clark
Carter
Cooper
Sullivan
Fletcher

Maxwell is fab (maximillian is a spelling nightmare) and I have a weird thing about putting an abbreviated name on the birth certificate even if you end up calling the baby Max.

Max is my front runner - have loved it for years.

Also like Elliott (or Eliot) but know a small, bald and very camp Lyndon who has a penchant for peculiar pointy shoes.

Lindon or Lyndon are nice?

Langston -- Langston Hughes is what I think of, but since I'm Irish that association would be drowned out by the word 'langers' meaning drunk, also 'langer' meaning a certain part of the male anatomy and a person who behaves like one.

Parker -- meh; undistinguished, 'Parker-Bowles'
Beckett -- like
Elliott -- like a lot
Andrew -- ok
Maxwell -- prefer Maximillian or just plain Max

Beckett, Elliott or Max for me.

Makes me think of Langstone Harbour near Hayling Island...

Don't like Langston sorry. From your list I like Andrew and Elliott. Maxwell just makes me think of Robert Maxwell and Parker makes me think of Peter Parker or the chauffeur.

I like Elliot and Maxwell. Max is a great name for a baby. Prefer Maximilian as a full name, though. Not a fan of the others. Sorry!

Name the baby Andrew, but use Drew as NN?

Report
ebrookm · 16/11/2010 21:01

See, the Andy nn is what I'd like to avoid.

Same problem with Nicholas - I do not like Nick for a nn so refuse to use it.

Dang, shang-a-Lang, Lang! I suppose Langston is getting the veto...

My second favorite was Parker, the chauffer... Now I'm a bit more confused. Any other suggestions a bit more traditional but unique?

I like Elliott v. much but DH is not too keen - it would take convincing.

Maxwell I really like, but it reminds me of the singer Maxwell every time I say it, so not sure.

Help!

Beckett and Elliot are nice. Andrew is my brother and husband's name, (different people!!) I like the name but maybe a bit dated? Will definately get called Andy by everyone!

Maxwell, just Max really. Which is fine. Langston might take a bit of getting used to but maybe sounds a bit like a pub? Nothing necessarily wrong with that!

Not keep on Langston and Beckett, but really like your other choices. Langston just sounds like a place, and Beckett just makes me think Bucket.
My faves are Andrew and Eliott
Good luck!

Ooo, I misunderstood. I don't think it would be a problem for you, your DH and your DS to have the same first initial.

Report
Notyetamummy · 16/11/2010 20:56

I've just realised why I don't like it - it makes me think of Robert Langdon from the Da Vinci Code. Also it's a little difficult to say and what would the nn be? Lang?

Beckett is nice, but I agree with you that it may be a bit much to have the initials BBB, although not disastrous.

My vote is still for Elliott or Maxwell.

Nope, sorry.

The only one I like from your list is Andrew. I think Andrew is due a revivial.

Wasn't Parker Lady Penelope's chauffeur?

SantasNutellaFairy · 16/11/2010 20:55

Langston? Not as a first name I'm sorry. Elliott, Andrew and Maxwell are all good; not as keen on Beckett and Parker.

Report
ebrookm · 16/11/2010 20:54

Was afraid of it being too surname-y...

Thanks!

I'm completely on the fence about Langston, but want to like it. :)

Beckett is fantastic - I'm just a bit weary because myself and DH have B christian names... So it would be B, B and B?! Not sure I can do that.
