How best to alter a hoody to accommodate a big head?

Ds has a big head. The school sports hoody arrived and even though I ordered big he is struggling to get his head through the hole! 😬 And it's a tesco embroidered one so I doubt I can return it!

I'm fairly handy with a needle and thread so could adjust it - just not sure of the neatest/ best way to go about it.

Any advice?

Thanks violet!

Ds' head is the same size as mine so might need dh's big head for the stretching! I suspect the machine stitches won't have enough give in them 😬

A rugby style top would have been a much better idea for PE! 🙄 Much easier to get off!

Right. I would stretch it and stretch it by hand. I'd sit pulling and pulling...it will give you more space...force it over your own head...pull it until it stretches.

It COULD be alteredif you unpick that fold area at the front, snip the opening a bit deeper and then sew it neatly back together. To be honest, it's the sort of thing I'd "feel" as I went. It's dark and thick so you're not going to ruin it.

Yeah a pullover one. Slit sounds like a good idea but the 2 edges of the hood overlap in the middle of the neck line iyswim. So not completely straight forward

Is it a pullover one? If so, I'd slit the front neck centre a little bit and hem it. Only a couple of cm.
