Is anybody planning to do the Scheepjes Last Dance on the Beach CAL? Some useful info for you.

I'm in a Facebook Yarnaholics group and we have been discussing this CAL as some of us are thinking of doing it. While investigating the colour schemes it has come to our attention that the colour codes for Scheepjes Colour Crafter and Stylecraft Special DK are the same, which means they are almost certainly exactly the same yarn from the same wholesale manufacturer just marketed as two different brands. At Wool Warehouse SSDK is £1.79 and Colour Crafter is £2.39, which adds up to a reasonable difference if you're doing a whole blanket. Prices vary slightly between retailers but the difference between the two brands is fairly consistent.

If you want to match one of the Scheepjes colour schemes in SSDK the colour names are different but you can use the colour codes to match up with the SSDK colours. It's also worth noting that on all the websites that I've checked the colours look different and that seems to be down to electronic alteration of the photos. For instance, on the Wool Warehouse site all of the Scheepjes colours look darker than the SSDK colours, by the same level of darkness. Whereas on the Deramores site it's the opposite, all the SSDK colours look darker than the Scheepjes ones, again with the same level of alteration across the range.

I've used quite a few different Drops yarns and I have found them to be very high quality for the price. The Merino Extra Fine is beautifully soft, smooth and pleasant to crochet with, but only 19p cheaper per 50g than Scheepjes Merino Soft and few colours too, although it's probably better quality as it's 100% merino whereas Scheepjes is only 50%.

Oooooh, I saw details of that CAL on a deramores email shot the other day and loved the design. Never done a CAL before. Could someone give me a link to the Facebook page for that cal, I couldn't find r anywhere!

www.facebook.com/groups/ScheepjesCAL.International/ Official Facebook page, make sure that you read the incredibly long pinned rules as they are very picky and have been deleting a posts and issuing warnings all over the place.

Oh my giddy aunt, somebody has already received her kit and opened it to have a squish and found that, although the box was labelled 'Sea', it contained the Stars kit. Shock Apparently an unknown number of boxes were wrongly labelled by Scheepjes and the retailers (having no reason to suspect a mistake) have sent the boxes on to customers without having opened them.

This is going to kick off, I just know it.

Rather boringly the admins are deleting posts so fast that they are almost subliminal, and now they have locked that thread. It was an incredibly brief bunfight.

We'll see what happens tomorrow, as the kit I couldn't decide if I'm keeping or not, has now been despatched and it's sea lol

Some lovely people who have been recently banned from the official Scheepjes FB group have set up an unofficial FB group. So far there is one rule, be nice to everybody and have fun. Grin

How did they get banned?! Grin

I joined the official group to have a nose around. The admins are militant. It doesn't really reflect well on their brand Confused

So my basic sea kit turned up today and after a quick comparison on my ssdk colour chart, (and it was quick due to 2yr old wanting to empty the box out!) the colours are identical, the ssdk are slightly more vibrant but the scheepjes does feel ever so slightly softer, I want to say it's not as tightly twisted but not sure if that's the correct way of saying it. Hope this is of some help Smile

Oh and I'm going over to the other Facebook page, the original one is too stressful to be in lol

Itallsucks, yes that's a good way to describe it, not as tightly twisted! I think it's softer too. There must only be a couple of colours that are very different from the SSDK range. Confused

I looked at that CAL and am a Stylecraft devotee. Would it be wrong to ask those of you more in the know to say which colours better match the "official" colours, as I was wanting to do the Sea and Rain blankets but the cost (& minimal donation to MIND involved, it really should be more so I would donate myself instead) is a little prohibitive at the moment.

ButtfaceMiscreant · 06/04/2016 11:49

If not, I will find an hour to crossmatch using the pictures and hope for the best! I more meant those of you who had already ordered the kit and could visually see (does that make sense? Sorry if not!)

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 06/04/2016 12:01

Buttface you just need to get the colours with the same codes.

So e.g. Scheepjes colour crafter Almelo and Stylecraft Special Spring green both have code 1316. I don't know what colours are in the packs, but if you go through the codes you should be able to find the Stylecraft equivalents.

I wouldn't trust the pictures as they can look quite different in real life.

ButtfaceMiscreant · 06/04/2016 12:12

Ah right, I didn't quite understand what you were all talking about with the codes Blush That makes sense now!

Thank you very much Smile

If you join the group that I linked to above there is a post on it where one of the members has listed the names of all the SSDK colours for each colour way.

This CAL was approved by Winks family. Wink also did a lot of work and promotions for Scheejes and this is their way to honor a great designer.mit has also brought together people from all over the world. It a great community and the yarn is some of the best.

I'm bought the luxury kit for last dance in the sea. I usually do a lot of comparing but it seemed pretty well priced for the yarn bag and sissies I received. The yarn is beautiful and I had never bought a pack before. I do agree about the way the attitude of the admin was a little disturbing and power tripping I think they want it to be just right for wink but to leave people out because they didn't buy there yarn is wrong and offensive.

Report
NewYearSameMe · 24/04/2016 12:31

It has got weirder Yarnlover. There are at least a couple of unofficial CAL FB groups mostly so that people can use whatever yarn they want to. The official admins have now started banning people from the official group because they have made negative comments in an unofficial group about the pattern/yarn/weird official group rules.

I think they're losing the plot and, if they could connect my MN name to my FB name, I would definitely get banned just for saying that.
