AIBU?

I don't want the receipt in the bag

Message to nice shop people: please don't shove it in, muttering "receipt in the bag?" as a virtual fait accompli.

I'd like you to give it to me to put in my purse so I can clutter up my bag keep an eye on my expenditure.

When you put it straight in the bag, I have to stand there and pull it out again, making me look rather petulant and petty.

AIBU?

They put the receipt in the bag for me at M&S and HMV this morning. Monsoon asked. No shite shops in my twee area!

When I was 16 I worked for a chain of shops and we HAD to put the receipt in the bag - as in, if a customer asked for it we had to say 'sorry you can take it out once ive put it in the bag' or we got disciplined and there were regular 'mystery shopper checks' on this very point.

Vinegartits It was a shite shop

I always put my receipt in my purse since my work colleague had one of her bags of shopping nicked when she was on a Christmas shopping trip. Coach trip to Cardiff, shopping then lunch. On getting up from lunch, a mothercare bag had disappeared which had gifts for her grandchildren in, with the receipt in and she had paid cash. She went back to re-buy items, mentioned it to the shop assistant serving her who told her she had dealt with the cash refund about 15 minutes before.

I very rarely pay cash, but have discovered that if you pay by card as long as the refund goes back on a card, doesn't have to be the same card or account (this is true of Tesco, Homebase, Original Factory Shop and Argos). Discovered this when I bought something and husband took them back and forgot to take my card.

Having had a bag of shopping stolen myself many years ago (nothing of value fortunately, but very annoying), I'm not going to give them the opportunity to get the cash too.

This is one of my pet peeves. I hate when the receipt is shoved in the bag without asking me first. I keep all my receipts in my handbag until a) I've decided to keep the item and b) have checked that my credit card was properly charged.

I also hate when they've handed me back my credit card/change/receipt and I need to put these things in my handbag but the cashier is so impatient that they say, "Next". I'm not old, I'm moving quickly, but I'm not about to walk away from the till with my purse out and my hands full.

I love the receipt in the bag YABU.

If its in the bag I know where it is so if I need to get a refund I know the product and the receipt are together.

If it goes in my handbag it risks having chewing gum spat into it, drink leaked on it or other dismal fates.
If it goes in my purse it will be crumpled into oblivion and I will end up thinking it's a long lost fiver.
If it goes in my pocket I will obviously wash it rendering it useless.
I have never left a bag of stuff or had one pinched I have however had my handbag and or purse nicked.

I keep my receipts because we are on a very tight budget at the moment and I keep track of literally every penny we spend.

we actually train our staff not to even bother asking if they want it in the bag or not, but to hand it to them. That way you never get the "it was put in my bag by one of your staff and i lost it therefore i demand a refund" petty arguments that are bound to happen oooh say, a couple of times a week.

Agreeing with laloue, hurry up and make the decision please.

I never realised this problem was simmering away in the minds of so many.

Gah! Now you've given me something else to grizzle to myself about

Well, can I just ask that when asked "Would you like the receipt in the bag?"(which we do every time in our shop)can you not stand there THINKING about it???? Or "Yes ...No, darling, do you want the receipt?" GAH!!! It's a yes or no that's needed, that's all!!!

I normally grab the bag before they have a chance to put the receipt in it anyway.

LittleMrsHappy, I keep all my receipts as I use my credit card for all purchases over £10. The receipts are then used for our accounts at home, and we can check bank statements/credit card bills etc against them. Banks do make mistakes sometimes.....

Definitely not in the bag (often don;t take a bag at all [smug green emoticon]), always into my purse.

I never thought about the 'bag-being-nicked' business...

LittleMrs - I run a small business so I need to keep some receipts so I can put them through as expenditure.

(Anal) DH keeps his receipts and checks them off on his bank statement, but mine just end up in a pile in case I need to take something back or query something.

Receipts in the bag are a pest, you get the items out, and put the bag to line the bin, and the receipt disappears into landfill. If it's in your purse, it doesn't get lost.

Stay out of shite shops

The kind of shops i go to, the assissant always asks me if i want it in the bag, before putting it in (i always say yes)

Im not fussed, either way goes!

but do find it extremely odd (general)that you need a receipt to keep your finances in order!

Id see the point if you needed it for tax/returns etc as a reasonable excuse, but honestly you need a receipt to keep your finances in order

I also hate receipts in the bag, they go into my handbag/purse,where although the do sink to the bottom of all the other rubbish at least they can be retrieved at some point.

My DP always hates receipts in the bag as he worries that if one subsequently has the bag nicked - before one gets home, I mean - the thief gets not only the item of clothing, but the receipt too. With you bank details on to boot.

There is logic in there somewhere.

I don't put receipts in the bag. If someone were to snatch/ steal the bag or I left the bag somewhere, then they could take it back to the shop, get a refund using the receipt and take home a nice pot of money (if I bought on a card, they could get a nice healthy credit note)! I always put it in my purse. Ok this is an unlikely scenario, but it's so easy to ut it in my purse, that I do just this.
