No, just need to tow and for it to be ok in the dirt/snow - any 4x4 would do. Broke down already, stranded for ages and am not terrifically pleased!

On plus side it has LPG conversion and shouldn't cost much more than Defender to run, when it does actually run that is

From one horsey person to another... do you need a huge gas guzzling 4x4 for towing? If not, all Subaru's are 4 wd. I ran a Justy for a year when I was on an economy drive, it harrowed fields, the arena, took me through snow, it was brilliant.

I'm afraid we gave up on Landies late last year - spent so much time and money repairing them over the years I think we could have had at least one Caribbean holiday. I've moved on to a Toyota Landcruiser which so far is fine although it does have a large selection of buttons to press that I really don't understand - hill descent, height, sport/comfort mode (???), and a lovely range of gears - I just pick one and see.

I have to admit it doesn't have the same character and whenever I hear the Discovery noise I feel a little pang!

also adjustable tow bar and standard land rover features of some doors not opening, ever, while others never quite properly close

hope we have a long and happy partnership of at least 6 months

it wasn't too bad, about 8 bin bags of assorted cigarette packets, coke bottles and apple cores bribed daughter and a friend to do it

now have new problem: how to drive this one without giggling uncontrollably at the size, noise (seems to be missing exhaust) and lack of any real manoeuvrability at all - particularly as driver seat permanently wedged in semi-recumbent position about a mile from the pedals

DH is under the illusion that Land Rover's never actually die - he wants one for the days when his silly rear wheel drive car won't get out of bed - and for taking to shooting grounds because I don't much like bits of clays raining down on my car roof. I have tried pointing out the Land Rover graveyard we drive past every day, but he is just not seeing it.

Could be, it was really old. Like pre-powersteering old. They were ahem "old money" and I think this thing just got passed on from her DH's parents. It was an excellent car though, the sort that you can wire back together and stick things back on with sticky tape and it still got up and going.

Was a massive guzzler. As I said she asked me if I wanted it and I am quite competent up to about Grand Cherokee size, but this monster scared me.

I wish you had posted this a month ago, I had a friend who was giving away her old Range Rover as it was really old and they were moving overseas and she just wanted to be rid of it (I like big cars, but this thing was beyond my abilities).

I think she ended up gumtreeing it, you never know, have a look!
