AIBU?

in not expecting nasty or sarcastic comments when posting a genuine conundrum?

"we don't allow personal attacks no matter how unreasonable you think someone is. Do report any you see. Thanks, MNHQ."

it seems to me both from reading other threads, and from starting threads myself, that there is a small percentage of MN posters who can't give a constructive objective POV and like nothing better than putting their boot in in a very personal and unhelpful way which I think is a form of online bullying ...

what do you think constitutes a 'personal attack'?

should it be ignored, self-governed or reported?

what level does it have to go to before it IS reported?

Hi i am new, i agree with the OP, really is no need to be nasty to one another

i think it is when the person stops dealing with the ideas and starts addressing the person...

eg - 'your poor children' (a pet hate)or 'you are being selfish & arrogant' (a parking thread of all things!)'

it think this generally means the poster is having a bad day/ drunk evening and knows the debate is beyond the reach of their reason so resorts to abuse instead.

YABU here, there and (I suspect) everywhere

FWIW, I love AIBU. It sustains me during the occasional tedium of a dribbly clingy teething 5mo.

Morloth, your picture of Morgoth actually looks a lot like me in my fighting bodice.

As the hat shows, accessories are the key.

Ooh I would love to be an Uppity Baggage...I feel I'm more of a sad sack though...

Sorry OP, as you were...

theyoungvisiter LOL Morloth was my very first Dungeons & Dragon character, she was a courtesan assassin and a LOT of fun (this is also where I met my DH). You are thinking of Morgoth

Morloth is who I like to be when I don't feel like bothering trying to make friends and influence people .

"Make Sense?"

"AIBU is where the MN masochists go to get tongue lashed by the MN sadists"

"...it's about the mean spirit in which a small minority of MN ladies respond to ANY thread."

This irony is so delicious it must be fattening

lol at "nasty pieces".

There are also Strumpets and Uppity Baggages aplenty on MN. As well as those who are No Better Than They Should Be.

Er so you have a right to give an opinion but when others give an opinion (in this case, suggesting that you sounded self interested in the will issue) that is snarky and abusive.

Ok, whatever.

You got lots of great advice from people on there but have chosen to focus not on the helpful advice but to start a thread about the unhelpful ie didn't agree with you advice.

Smashing. In future, if you have a genuine conundrum then don't say 'diddle' in the title. It sounds a bit snarky and dare I say abusive.

jules - yes. And maternity version with expandable stomach gusset.

Morloth, I feel a bit scared of you now. Your name sounds suspiciously like one of Sauron's evil Ork henchmen anyway.

heavens above! 'nasty pieces'? is the problem that you are posting from the 1950s?

relax, mrsh, and enjoy the rest of your day.

Yes Morloth I agree. The majority of MN posters are great and I love it here. But I've noticed on many many other threads that there are often a few nasty pieces who spoil it and lower the tone

No, it's not a court doc, but like everyone else here i am entitled to my own opinion and to give it, and if that is to think that a lawyer should be able to spell, then why shouldn't I say so?

... oh so effing what

throws up hands

gets on with something useful

morloth that's some serious garb. People would definitely not dare disagree with you if you had that on.

Maybe each AIBU should include a pic of the OPs clobber so people can guage how much of a kicking they're allowed to give them.

If wearing floral sandals and princess hat and holding a kitten then only moderate flaming allowed. Full armour suit = use c word at will.
