To only want to wear big granny pants (tho some way off being granny)

Maybe it's just me, but I cannot bear a pair of knickers which doesn't actually cover my arse AKA the dreaded g-string. Was reminded of this at the weekend when DH took me out for dinner to celebrate wedding anniversary. Wore slinky dress which necessitated pants that, quite frankly, barely cover anything. As we were walking along the street, I just wanted to keep hoiking them out from between my butt crack. Not great. Couldn't wait to get my big granny pants on the next day. I think in M and S parlance they are known as full brief.

I agree! Since having my little darling 8 months ago a pair of the dreaded thongs have barely touched my behind. God bless big knickers!

Have just remembered how much Caitlin Moran makes me laugh. Thanks for posting that Gizmo
Loving the backgammon idea.

with you on this one.

I wear the 'shorts' very comfortable, but look humungous on the washing line.

I always take a step backwards afterwards and think, surely my bum is not that big, and DC kindly say 'oh yes mummy it is'

I LOVE my big belly warmers. I have never been a g string girl. Pre c section I was more a tanga type but they now sit right on my scar which makes it itch and just annoys me.

H&M do pretty maternity knickers that are as comfortingly large as my bottom.

'I'm struggling to imagine a situation in which I'd be happy to have string rubbing on my anus.'

Snorting in a most unladylike fashion over here.

Hurray for capacious undergarments.

Also. It's too near poo, really, isnt' it? I'm as fastidiously wiped as the next person who has to poo and pants up in under 14 seconds to avoid 3 yr old meltdown - but I don't like the idea one jot. I'm struggling to imagine a situation in which I'd be happy to have string rubbing on my anus.

I loooooooooooooooooooved Caitlin Moran. There's another article she wrote about aging which I personally believer EVERY woman in the world should read, every time she gets concerned about a wrinkle or grey hair: amazing

I have some big pants which are sexy in a kind of 1940s way. Sadly I lack the burlesquey legs to go with them. Mine are pale blue and ovoid, which mars the effect.

i agree with miss sunny - I just can't bring myself to do granny pants - and I don't find thongs uncomfy - i suppose i'm used to them.
Byt then I have to match bra and knickers or I don't feel right so i guess I'm a bit weird!!

i haven't had any kids, but i wear m&s midi briefs (not quite granny pants). oh says they're sexy.

and if i have a special occasion, i wear even bigger knickers: this is because they have NO vpl at all!! they cover all the way from your waist to your thighs, they rest on the bit that bends, so there is no line there either! how is a thing that digs in somewhere along your bum and across your belly invisible?
no! big knickers every time!

Can't believe we've got this far through this conversation without reference to Caitlin 'Arse-Trinkets' Moran's seminal piece on the subject last year - here she is full flow on the topic of 'sexy' pants:

'Women, this manner of underwear cannot be an act of sanity. Why are we starving our bottoms of the resources ? like an extra metre of material ? to stay comfortable? Why have we succumbed to pantorexia? It is, of course, all a symptom of women?s continuing, demented belief that, at any moment, they might face some snap inspection of their ?total hotness,? and have to reveal their underwear to a baying crowd, possibly featuring George Clooney. In this respect, women have communally lost all reason. Ladies! On how many occasions in the past year have you needed to wear sexy pants? In other words, to break this right down, how many times this year have you suddenly, unexpectedly, had sex in a brightly lit room, with a hard-to-please erotic connoisseur? Exactly. On those kind of odds, you might just as well be keeping a backgammon board down there, to entertain a group of elderly ladies in the event of emergencies. It?s more likely to happen.'

The full rant is here and should be printed in 48 pt Times New Roman font and pinned up over every woman's knicker drawer.

I am 29 and i love my 'belly smackers' i have never owned a thong or g-string and don't intend to. My friend says they are like cheese wire up your bum! No thanks i like my comfort too much.

Cotton boyshorts/grannies for everyday wear. Keep the other stuff for "special" occasions.

If need no panty lines - go commando baby!

Agree re: tummy cut in half - big problem for me too (pre and post DD!). I just get for the ones with an elastic that is not that tight - sloggis are a no no as far as I am concerned

I have quite a few knickers that do not go up your bum actually - low rise, black cotton, bought in Italy. But they are not supertight around the bum though so if you like them that way they are not for you!

I'm a recent convert to m&s lace no vpl shorts - sexy and comfy. Asda do similar ones too.
I always wear big knickers, I only own one tiny pair - see through chiffon tie side frillies, tie sided so they can come off esily when wearing basque/stockings. Hubby like to work "around them" though, it took him 3 times of me wearing them to realise they untied!
He wears jersey boxers but had to wear pants for the 1st time in 30 years recently when he had the snip, he HATED them but I think they look quite sexy, I tried to persuade him to take some on holiday but he didn't.

I like boyshorts, because they go pretty far up on the tummy, but also extend a little down the leg, which is warmer, and also has the effect of no panty line under skirts.

G-strings and thongs are torture devices! My DDs call them "wedgy knickers"

Sod the VPL and go for the big knickers - the more voluminous the better!

minervaitilica there is no middle ground that doesn't go up your bum in my experience.

I have tried thongs, high legs, shorts, sloggi (not the full ones). All made their way up my bum after about 1 minute. I have now completely given up and live happily in big pants.

I suspect it has something to do with my sagging bottom strange shape

minervaitalica - but you then have to watch out for the ones that cut your tummy in half.

I love my big pants - so comfy and all encompassing! Coupled with a lovely vest so no midriff/back shows and I'm ready to face the day everyday!

But why big pants? I am not a fan of G-strings either, but surely there are plenty of options on the spectrum between thongs and granny pants?

Boy-ish pants? French knickers? low-rise briefs?

There must be a middle ground
