...to think DH is being an arse about my dental bill??

So I broke a tooth off yesterday, right down to the gum, and it's very close to front of my mouth.

Went to dentist today and she has managed to crown it thus saving the tooth.

Paid half today and the other half is due in 2 weeks when I have the proper crown fixed on.

He asked how much, I told him.

He is now pissing and whining about the whole thing, "that's too expensive", "only fucking millionaires pay that for teeth" etc etc

So I ponit out that the ONLY other option was to have an extraction, what does he want me to walk around with a visible hole in my mouth.

Wouldn't mind but he spend best part of 70 quid a week on fags and beer so in my mind he really doesn't have cause to moan how I spend money.

He going on about it like I'm spending money on luxuries for myself.........whereas I see it as essential work that HAD to be done.

Who's right, who's wrong??

You are right. You can't go round with a hole in your mouth.

We have HSA and it has always been really good. It covers the dc until they are 25 if they are at university /college.

Yeah grimma i didn't go for insurance, but the surgery I go to has what I think is a great deal, you pay 15 a month and for that you get for free each year

2 hygeinist appointments

2 dental appointments

x rays

emergency pain relief

emergency appointments

and then 20% off dental work

I think that quite good, a friend of mine who has also recently had a crown paid 620 for the same work

post crown sounds very serious somehow (non-dentist here).

How did you break it? Managed mine by hoovering the stairs.

Anyone who needs an NHS dentist should contact their local primary care trust, btw (in England). It's the PCT's job to make sure there are enough NHS dentists for the local population.

edam, it's quite funny really.

Me and the kids where cleaning out from under the sofa's yesterday, the bloody things are sooooooooo heavy that we can't really pull them away from the wall, so we grab an end each and tilt them forward.

Well, on put them down again my head got squashed between the sofa and the wall, pmsl.

I say putting them down, actually it was more like dpopping it back into position, ha ha ha.

A post crown is when they literally drill through the root and put a metal post into the gum for a better fix for the crown (since there was so little tooth left), I think anyway, something like that!

I was just going to say, before I saw your most recent post, that £514 is pretty cheap for a crown. Tell DH he got off lightly.

I paid £650 for mine. DH not happy about that either but no way would he have said I shouldn't have had it done. He spends enough on his damn car so he wouldn't dare tell me I couldn't spend money on something so important as my tooth!

Oh and I have 3 crowns now too

An extraction would cost money too tell him.

I paid about the same for a crown recently.

Would it be dreadfully insensitive of me to mention dental insurance at this point?

What

an

arsehole.

Actually, you can tell him that, had the tooth not been saved, the average cost of an implant alone would run into the thousands (I had to look into it when DS did the same as you), as well might the extraction to get you there.

About £3,640 might cover it!!!

dental insurance is rubbish, I'm on a really excellent plan anyway, it isn't that DH particullary thinks we haven't got the money for it, just he thinks it's not on to spend that on a tooth which imo is VU of him

ow ow ow ow ow! Am profoundly grateful there was some tooth left to hold my crown.

But thank you for telling us how you did it, is possibly even sillier than my tale!
