AIBU?

So, is it reasonable to expect your dog to be allowed into a friend's house?

Am I being unreasonable not to let my friend's dog in? I have a 100ft garden where he can go and play while she visits and he gets water out there, I won't let him in because he smells and he makes little footprints all over the floor and I can't be arsed to clean them up. She feels hard done by and thinks I should just put up with him.

Who is an unreasonable prima donna, her or me?

YANBU, I wouldn't let it in the garden either. My sister always brings her dog to my house and stands looking resentful on the doorstep with dog because she knows I don't want it in the house.
It is rude of your friend to bring it in the first place. Whereas I know my sister is trying to make the point that I am uptight and selfish and will continue to stand on doorstep with dog in order to make this point until the end of time.

YANBU and I've got dogs! How ignorant for people to try and decide your house rules for you. My male staffie went for ex P's friends male dog after he brought it in. Ex was put in an awkward position by the twat just turning up with his dog.

Our house is a dog-free zone. We have let a friend (who terribly apologetically turned up with a dog she'd been lumbered with for the day) put it in the garden, but most dogs either stay at home or are tied to the railings out the front. We don't want dog poo in our garden, we have cats to do that.

YA definately NBU. imo bringing in a dog to someone eloses house without permission is as bad as sparking up a fag. i love animals but would not put up with this.

I am getting my puppy soon and she will not be coming to anyone elses house unless they ask me to bring her round.

YANBU and I have dogs.

The only time I would take my dog into someones house is if I knew they were dog people and didn't mind.
I sometimes walk (about 2 miles) with the dog to a friend's house and I always ask if I can bring him in. She has a dog herself and I know she genuinely doesn't mind.

I wouldn't dream of taking either of my dogs into a house if I knew they weren't welcome

YANBU - i have a dog (soon to be two) and I wouldn't take them to some ones house unless i had checked first and they were allowed.

I wouldn't take them if they had to stay in the garden the whole time though as they bark and dig! (Well current one does hopefully new one wont!).

As for leaving them at home all day, unless someone was there part of the time I wouldn't do this. Mine are just pups and more then a few hours is unfair.

Even with an hours journey your friend could still come for a couple of hours. Most dogs are ok to be left for 4 hours and some longer.

The taking your dogs everywhere I do do . Not anywhere they need to stay in the car. But if im visiting family or friends and their allowed they come. Mine are very much a part of the family.

DP's mate brought his puppy with him to a recent bbq. I was not impressed. He did not ask before hand and the thing just leaped all over our new sofas with its claws. I think it's v rude, tbh.

I personally wouldn't take my dog to anyone's house unless they said 'bring the dog', and certainly wouldn't put her in someone's garden if they had children or a lawn they were fond of.

I'd never have a dog in my house (ruled by large dog-hating feline)

YANBU.

I'm a dog love and owner but would never take my dog with me to someone else's house unless they'd specifically asked me to.

I wouldn't leave mine in someone else's garden because he'd hate that and would scrabble at the door and scratch it and be really annoying.

But I wouldn't leave my dog at home alone for more than 4 hours max unless it was an absolute emergency. Not fair on the dog. Not everyone has someone who can come and walk the dog, or let them out; I certainly don't.

YANBU, i wouldn't want a dog in my house. But i really am not a pet fan cat or dog! The smell they leave, hair, and dirty prints on the floor. Not to mention they just leave me feeling all scatty and un-easy.

DP would love a dog on the otherhand, no fecking way!!

I would not expect to take my dog anywhere, I love having other dogs here as we love animals but would never take my dog to another house without knowing in advance it was OK.

"keeps up a constant campaign to wear down my resistance too..."

See, that's just obnoxious. We automatically make arrangements when visiting friends, because the dog is not always going to be welcome. If no invite is issued, we assume no welcome is intended. Our dog, our problem.

I'm a dog lover (and part-time owner), and wouldn't expect everyone to welcome her with open arms.
There is just one house I know she's welcome unreservedly at, and this welcome is reciprocal, as they have a dog of the same breed.
If her dog is OK in the garden, that should be the end of it.

LOL at some of those pet buggies, they look better than the buggies I had for my DC's...

My parents used to do this years ago. They would bring in their dog who was always shedding hairs and they would tell me to lock MY cats away.
Soon put a stop to that and put the dog in a side room.
He could not go in the garden as we have chickens and he would go mad at them.
It's the OP's house, she can do what she wants.
