AIBU?

To be seemingly the only one at work tomorrow

Givenupgivingashit · 18/09/2022 15:16

Apart from me and and my other NHS colleagues, all of my friends seem to be off work tomorrow, teachers, retail workers, office workers.
Please tell me that there's someone else at work keeping the country running?!

I don’t work Monday anyway but our shop will be shut as we’ve done a quick poll of our neighbours and the rest of the street will be closed.

About half a dozen of us (media start up) are - just too much going on, my self employed sister is too.

@girlmom21 You should be able to claim your day back if your workplace is closed due to the bank holiday.

Neither me or Dh are at work as we both get bank holidays as additional holidays. I teach and Dh is a solicitor.
We will both work at home as both have a lot on and have been moving Dd into her university house today, so will do what we often do on a Sunday afternoon tomorrow instead.

I bloody hate this saying so please forgive me ladies and gents - As an essential worker who had to travel to work everyday through the pandemic, who couldn't possibly be furloughed or work from home at all as we were so essential, I am OFF tomorrow! Essential my foot ehh.

My DD is working at her p/t job tomorrow- a food place in Windsor - in fact they have extra staff in!

There are 5 of us at work tomorrow in our department. We get to take the day another time. I could have been off (surprisingly no pressure from management either way), but would prefer to have the chance to clear backlog while it’s quiet.

friend was posting about how she hoped all the anti-monarchists would be working, not enjoying the holiday.
I'm anti-monarchy and I am more than happy to be working and to save m annual leave for when I actually want it and not when the state dictates.
If your friend is a royalist hopefully she won't actually be "enjoying" the day.

Husband and I have our own small business (training company), 6 people coming for a 5 day course starting tomorrow, organised months ago. If we closed, the whole week would be cancelled. They still want to come (most travelling from England to NE Scotland, they’ve taken time off to attend, booked accommodation etc) and we certainly don’t want to cancel a week of work. Going to close for a few hours to allow them to go and watch the funeral if they choose to. I’ll be popping in to work briefly but then working from home and supervising child.

I don't work on a Monday anyway, but plenty of people going on to my work. (Retail) and my son is working (IT).

I'm working in a food shop. Be good to get things done without customers and having to do 2 jobs at once.
I could have booked it off but I want to take my leave when it suits me. Absolutely no interest in a stranger's funeral.

I work in education so I'm off, DH could either take it off paid, or go in and take a lieu day within 90 days..

Prison officers are all still working tomorrow. I've been in work today, because it was the only way to get 5 hours of peace and quiet to get a complex piece of work done.

University lecturer and, yes, I'll be working most of the day. It's a BH, we've been given the day off, but there no way pre-term work that needs doing is going to get done otherwise.

Well, all those who work filming the funeral, broadcasting, security, utilities, logistics, transport, hospitality, airlines etc are working!
The public face of many firms will close, but behind the scenes someone is generally always working.

Nurse but it’s my day off, we were going to take the boys to Safari park but it’s shut too. Feels more like it does @ Christmas with everything closed so will watch funeral and have our roast tomorrow too. Hope work is ok tomorrow for all those still working

I'm a nurse but not NHS , will be working as usual .. 13 hr shift but will get my pro rata hours back for when it suits me so I'm happy enough

If it’s not too outing, do say where these places are that are open tomorrow. Everywhere round here seems to be shut. I’m not particularly interested in watching the funeral so might as well have been at work!

DP is a sports coach (self employed but affiliated to a club) and he’s been told he’s not allowed to work between 11 and 2.

I had an email from QVC saying they are stopping their broadcasts tomorrow.
I understand people want to pay their respects, but I feel they’re just jumping on the bandwagon. Crazy

I’m at work! Office job but took the day on weds instead as was more use to me then. Useful as I’ve run out of leave!

I work for the council in environmental services. Normally open on most bank holidays apart from 2 days at Christmas and 2 days at New Years. I worked Easter Sunday for example. We are all off on Monday though.

Care home worker. I should have been working but swapped as DP supermarket worker has day off. So thought we would spend day together. Was easy to get someone to swap as they paying extra for tomorrow. DP is getting full pay for day off

I will be working, office job and have the bank holiday off but won't bother taking it. I've got Thursday off for a course (not work related) so will use tomorrow to catch up and get ahead with work.

A friend was posting about how she hoped all the anti-monarchists would be working, not enjoying the holiday

I am not really an anti-monarchist, I'd probably vote to keep it in a referendum as the alternative is people like Boris! But that doesn't mean I support compulsory mourning and funeral watching. It would have been perfectly fine to keep things open and encourage employers to let staff watch the funeral or a highlights programme where possible.

I'm working tomorrow. Checking in passengers going on a cruise from Southampton. It'll be a strange shift but at least I'll have a very quick drive to work.
